Titans’ Mike Vrabel, Ran Carthon talk Jeffery Simmons extension

The Tennessee Titans held a press conference on Wednesday to make their four-year, $94 million contract extension with Jeffery Simmons official.

During the presser, both head coach Mike Vrabel and general manager Ran Carthon spoke on the deal and praised Simmons, calling him the embodiment of everything the team wants in a player.

“Jeff embodies everything that we want in a Titan, from the time that we drafted him, from the time that we spent time you with at Mississippi State,” Vrabel said. “He answered a lot of questions truthfully, honestly. You’re a great example to our community, so thank you. You’ve earned this. We’re going to continue to hold you to a high standard — that’ll be the fun part — but certainly embody everything we believe in here as a team captain, a leader and in your performance on the field.”

“There’s a model for what you want a player to be and what you want your organization to look like, and I think Jeff is one of those models for us. So this was something that was a priority to get done,” Carthon said.

Carthon went on to thank Simmons’ agent, Paul DeRousselle, who he says he was in constant contact with about an extension following the Senior Bowl in early February.

“There was never a moment where we weren’t talking,” Carthon said. “Our first initial meeting to get the conversation started came a little bit after the Senior Bowl. And from that moment, we were diligently working to get this done and it ultimately came to a conclusion last weekend some time.”
