A tired Sean McVay had the most relatable quote about his lack of sleep as a new dad

Sean McVay typically stands at the podium for his weekly press conferences with plenty of energy, especially on Fridays. When he met with reporters for the last time this week, however, he seemed a little…drained.

“Tired,” he said flatly when a reporter pointed out his lack of pep.

That’s totally understandable. He just became a new dad on Tuesday and anyone with kids knows what those first few days are like with a newborn. They’re not easy, to say the least.

McVay is doing his best to not only take care of his son, but also prepare for this week’s opponent, the 4-2 Dallas Cowboys.

It doesn’t help that the Rams will be on the road two time zones over, kicking off at 1 p.m. ET. Sleep hasn’t been easy for the coach to come by, and it won’t be in the next two nights, either.

That being said, McVay is catching up on everything in the Rams’ building, but he wasn’t afraid to admit how real sleep deprivation is.

“Well, I’m getting caught up, you know. I mean, everything that went on this week. I got way behind, so still have a lot of work to do. Everything’s good, but the sleep thing is real,” McVay said. “Everything is great. Everything is all good, but we are creatures of habit in terms of our rhythm and routine and I get a little edgy and irritable when that gets a little of. Most importantly, it’s about our players feeling good and then I’ll just have a little bit of extra work to do kind of on the backend to get up to speed so that we’re ready to go. There’s plenty of time to be able to do that by Sunday at noon or whatever time we kick off there.”

He continued: “The lack of sleep earlier in the week, I’ve taken pretty good care of myself for the most part this year, but that (expletive) is real when you lose it. So that’s what you’re sensing from me right now.”

Welcome to the club, Sean. That’s essentially how dads on Twitter reacted to McVay’s quote.

As the youngest coach in the NFL, he’s always energetic and fired up on the sidelines, but don’t be surprised if he’s a little bit more subdued this weekend.
