Tiger Woods returning to play golf with his son at PNC Championship

In his first tournament since his devastating February car crash, Tiger Woods will compete in the parent-child PNC Championship in Orlando next weekend.

The tournament pairs 20 former major champions with family members in a relaxed event. Woods will be playing with his son Charlie.

Woods made his first public appearance last week in advance of his Hero World Challenge tournament. Throughout the week, he spent time on the driving range in full view of cameras, demonstrating a swing that looked smooth enough to bolster his odds in a Masters tournament he still hasn't committed to playing.

On February 23, Woods suffered catastrophic injuries to his leg and ankle in a single-car rollover wreck in Los Angeles. Woods spent weeks under hospital care and months in therapy, and indicated he's still in pain now. While a return to fulltime golf is off the table, Woods indicated that he was planning to play individual tournaments as well as what he termed "hit-and-giggle" charitable events, which would encompass the PNC Championship.

"I'll put it to you this way — as far as playing at the Tour level, I don't know when that's going to happen," Woods said last week. "Now, I'll play a round here or there, a little hit-and-giggle. I can do something like that."

Team Woods finished at -20 in last year's tournament, in seventh place and five strokes off the lead of Team Thomas (Justin Thomas and his father). The 36-hole tournament would allow Woods to use a cart, and the alternating-shot format would allow for Charlie to handle some of the shots his father might find too straining at this point in his recovery.
