Thunder rookie Ousmane Dieng diagnosed with slight wrist fracture
Oklahoma City Thunder rookie Ousmane Dieng suffered a slight chip fracture in his right wrist and will miss the remainder of summer league, the team announced.
He is expected to be ready for the start of training camp.
Dieng, the 11th pick last month, averaged 8.8 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.2 assists in five games between Salt Lake City and Las Vegas. He produced his best game on July 13 with 12 points, seven rebounds, one assist and one block on 5-of-8 shooting from the field.
Dieng was among four rookies the Thunder added to the roster, joining Chet Holmgren (second pick), Jalen Williams (12th pick) and Jaylin Williams (34th pick). The Thunder traded three first-round picks to the New York Knicks to acquire the pick to draft him.
The 19-year-old averaged 8.9 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.1 assists on 40% shooting from the field in 23 games last season with the NZ Breakers in the National Basketball League. He emerged as a strong playmaker and defender during his time in the NBL.
The Thunder certainly value what Dieng brings after trading three first-rounders to have the opportunity to draft him. He represents a big building block for the future and the team will be excited to get him back healthy and ready for training camp.
