Three things to know: Mario Williams, ex-OU football wide receiver, commits to USC

Mario Williams has committed to USC.

Williams, who played at wide receiver during his one year at OU, arrived in Norman in 2021 as a true freshman from Plant City High School in Tampa, Fla.

During the 2021 college football season, Williams played in 11 of 12 OU football games — missing only the Kansas game Oct. 23 — and had three or more receptions in seven games, including six catches for 37 yards in the season-opener against Tulane.

In the Alamo Bowl Dec. 29, Williams caught two passes for 33 yards as OU defeated Oregon 47-32.

Now, Williams has committed to play wide receiver at USC, where he will be coached by the man that helped recruit him to OU: ex-OU head coach Lincoln Riley.

Mario Williams: Five-star receiver coming out of high school

Williams committed to the OU football program in May 2020 as a five-star wide receiver.

Williams chose the Sooners over a group of offers that included Alabama, Clemson, LSU and Texas among plenty of others. He was the top-ranked player from Florida, according to Rivals, and is the No. 12 player overall in the class.

Mario Williams was named a true freshman All-American by ESPN

Mario Williams was named a true freshman All-American in 2021. Williams racked up 35 receptions for 385 yards and four touchdowns, and returned kicks five times for 108 yards for the OU football team during his lone year as a Sooner.

Mario Williams: Texas Tech game was his best

The best game Williams had for the OU football team happened against the Texas Tech Red Raiders Oct. 30.

Williams compiled five catches for 100 yards and one touchdown in the Sooners' 52-21 rout of Texas Tech.
