Class 2A final: Washington 41, Millwood 24

Three key takeaways from No. 1 Washington's 41-24 win over second-ranked Millwood in the Class 2A state championship game on Saturday night:

Player of the game: Kade Norman. The senior linebacker made two game-changing plays as Washington trailed by two possessions when the Warriors needed them most. He first recovered a fumble by Millwood running back Anthony Keys, leading to a Major Cantrell touchdown pass for Washington. Then, on the very next possession, quarterback CJ Turnbull threw a costly interception to Norman — who returned the interception 59 yards for a touchdown, giving the Warriors their first lead of the second half. Norman also ran in a 9-yard touchdown in the final minute to secure the Warriors' second consecutive Class 2A state title.

Key moment: After Millwood's CJ Turnbull made it a one-possession game with a touchdown run in the fourth quarter, Washington wide receiver Mason Singletary awaited the kickoff in the end zone. Singletary shot up the Warriors' sideline upon hauling in the kick, returning the ball 72 yards for a touchdown. Turnbull fumbled on the Falcons' ensuing drive to seal Millwood's fate — ceasing their quest for a 2A title.

Read option: In the win, Washington secured their undefeated season and is currently riding a 30-game winning streak heading into the 2024 season. According to I Was At The Game, the Warriors are now tied with Fairview, Davis and Fairfax for the 15th-longest 11-man win streak in Oklahoma high school football history.

More: 1,868 miles. A Panhandle legacy. Hooker's trip to Class A football finals has it all.

Class A final: Fairview 34, Hooker 8

Three takeaways from Class A top-ranked Fairview’s 34-8 state finals victory over No. 4 Hooker on Saturday afternoon at the University of Central Oklahoma’s Chad Richison Stadium:

Player of the game: Jax Bernard. The junior quarterback and son of head coach Robert Bernard guided the Yellowjackets to a Class A state title for the second straight year. He completed 12 of 21 pass attempts for 231 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Bernard also added 18 carries for 121 yards and a score.

Top moment: In the second quarter, senior receiver Isaiah Burris grabbed an interception to set Fairview’s offense up on Hooker’s 42-yard line. Then he capitalized on good field position, hauling in a 38-yard touchdown pass from Bernard. The reception extended Fairview’s lead to 19-0 with 2:10 until halftime.

Read option: The Yellowjackets (15-0) completed their second straight undefeated season. With 30 consecutive victories, they are tied with Davis and Fairfax for the 15th-longest 11-man win streak in Oklahoma high school football, according to sports database I Was At The Game. Davis’ win streak ended in 2014, while the Fairfax streak lasted from 1975-76, per I Was At The Game.

Class B final: Seiling 48, Velma-Alma 16

Three takeaways from Class B top-ranked Seiling’s 48-16 state finals victory over No. 4 Velma-Alma on Friday night in Bethany:

Player of the game: Kaden Manuel. The senior quarterback/linebacker had an outstanding finale to his high school career, scoring all seven of Seiling’s touchdowns on the way to a state title with his father, head coach Gary Manuel. Kaden rushed for 355 yards on 27 carries, completed six of nine pass attempts for 64 yards and contributed to a defense that held Velma-Alma to its lowest score of the season.

Top moment: In the second quarter, Manuel spurted into one gap, and that was all he needed to rocket into the end zone. The senior quarterback accelerated for a 78-yard touchdown romp on the opening play of that drive, and the two-point conversion extended Seiling’s lead to 28-8 with 4:41 until halftime.

Read option: The lopsided score couldn’t represent just how well senior receiver Langston Walker played for Velma-Alma. Walker finished with 13 catches for 236 yards and a touchdown, including a stellar 42-yard grab in the first quarter.
