Thomasville soccer falls in round two after solid season
Apr. 25—THOMASVILLE — After a solid regular season and an impressive PK win over Harlem in the first round, the Thomasville Bulldogs fell to Pike County in the second round of the state playoffs Wednesday.
The Pirates took an early lead on the Bulldogs, scoring twice in the first half to make it 2-0. Gio Ulloa was able to send in a goal for the Bulldogs in the second half, but it was too little, too late as Pike County held on for the win.
Overall, Thomasville had a solid season this year, finishing 11-7-1 and taking second in the region with just a single region loss. The Bulldogs had an intense and impressive round one win over Harlem that went into penalty kicks, before falling in round two.
"I thought it was a good season," said Thomasville head soccer coach Robert Peterson. "I thought we did very well. We accomplished a lot, especially from the start of the season to now being as young as we were as well. So, I'm super happy and super pleased with the way it turned out."
"I thought we did a really good job of learning what it takes to win," said Peterson on what he felt the team did well this year. "It's a hard thing to understand the intensity and the levels and all that. Just the little steps, the training and all of that kind of stuff was a huge step in the right direction from start to finish."
This Bulldog squad featured three seniors on the roster in Seth Rome, Colby Hall and Sean Graham. These seniors have been involved in the Thomasville soccer program for many years, dating back to middle school.
"They've been around the program for a long time, all the way back to middle school," Peterson said. "So, you're talking about a change from six, seven years of just being involved in the program from all the way through. They've been a big part of it."
