‘I think I can learn a ton’: Jalen Suggs eager to begin summer league

Orlando Magic rookie Jalen Suggs views the Las Vegas Summer League as a tremendous opportunity to learn and grow on the court, and the fifth overall pick can’t wait to get started.

Suggs and the Magic arrived in Las Vegas this week to kick off their five-game summer league stint. The group held their first practice together on Wednesday as Suggs, and fellow rookie Franz Wagner, begin the transition to the NBA game.

Orlando brought some of its roster players to summer league, including Cole Anthony, R.J. Hampton and Ignas Brazdeikis, which should help Suggs gain some level of comfort with his new teammates.

He constantly finds himself asking them questions.

I think I can learn a ton. I’m looking and searching for knowledge. I’m searching for knowledge when I’m out here. That’s why I’m asking Coach (Jamahl Mosley) a ton of questions and I’m talking to Cole, R.J. and Mo, guys who have been here already. I’m just trying to gain knowledge, get as comfortable as I can so that when we get in and get to running I can teach other guys.

The results of summer league are often taken with a grain of salt each year.

However, the opportunity for playing time should prove to be highly beneficial for Suggs to get his first taste of NBA action. He is viewed as a potential franchise-changing player and having a strong showing in Las Vegas will help build positive momentum heading into next season.

Led by a first-time head coach in Mosley, the Magic view summer league and the following season as an important period as the organization continues its rebuilding efforts. The helpful factor is each player and coach on the roster is eager to get to work.

The Magic begin summer league on Monday versus the Golden State Warriors.
