Thanks to April snowfall, Arizona Snowbowl season extended to June for the first time ever

Arizona Snowbowl made history on Wednesday as cold weather and lingering snow allowed for an extension of the ski season until Saturday, June 1, the ski resort said.

The popular ski resort near Mount Humphrey in the San Franciso Peaks had previously announced an extension of their season until the end of May but made history with the decision to wait until June to officially end the season.

Ski conditions were possible as a result of 281 inches of snowfall from the winter and spring, with 55 inches received in April, making this the latest projected closing date for Snowbowl's ski season, the resort said in a news release.

The Arizona Gondola lift would be operating on Memorial Day weekend, and on June 1, along with separate scenic rides during the day and at sunset.

Tickets for the last official day of Snowbowl's season were available online.
