Texans’ solution to run game woes has been to saddle up Deshaun Watson
The Houston Texans rushing offense hasn’t produced a 100-yard runner at all this season, and the team has crested the century mark only three times in 2020.
Though the Texans have had an inability to get the run game going, left tackle Laremy Tunsil knows what to do when the rushing attack stalls.
“If we can’t get that done, we’ve got to find different aspects in the offense to get that done,” Tunsil said. “If that’s get the ball in 4’s hands and let him make plays, then that’s what it is.”
Quarterback Deshaun Watson, No. 4, has been the driving force behind the Texans’ offense, and it simply isn’t because he plays the premier position through which the unit flows. Watson is fourth in the NFL with 3,201 passing yards and has thrown just five interceptions on the year.
“I told y’all a long time ago that the identity of the offense is to put the ball in 4’s hands,” said Tunsil. “The last couple of weeks I hope y’all seen what I was talking about.”
Watson has also had stellar play from his teammates to also complement his superb pocket awareness. The two-time Pro Bowler has 28 sacks on the season, the fewest of his career through the first 11 games of a season.
Said Tunsil: “It’s the whole offense. We [were] executing on every cylinder from the quarterback to the receivers to the offensive line. It’s just the offense as a whole, we execute and get things done and that helped 4 out a lot.”
Watson told reporters on Dec. 2 that he the offensive line deserves “a big Christmas present from me.”
Tunsil has a few ideas.
“I’ll take a PJ,” said Tunsil. “With all that money he got, I’ll take a PJ. I’ll take a Mercedes. Whatever he gets us will be cool, man.”
