Tennis is on its way back, but it will be unrecognisable from the festival-feeling of packed stadia, noise and excitement that we are used to.

The US Open and several other North American tournaments will return, behind closed doors, and then a clay court swing will begin immediately in the run-up to the French Open. Not everyone is happy about the plans.

On the latest Tennis Podcast, Amazon Prime presenter Catherine Whitaker, BBC commentator David Law and Matt Roberts review the announcement, discuss the various issues it raises, and speculate about how many of the world’s leading players will opt out of competing in any of the events.

Will the US Open become known as the ‘Asterisk Slam?’, or should we get over ourselves and accept that whoever wins it will have earned the right to do so?

How many of the sport’s biggest stars will join Serena Williams in committing to play in the event? Will Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic make the trip?

Last weekend’s exhibition events - the Adria Tour and the ‘Ultimate Tennis Showdown’ - also get the Tennis Podcast treatment.

The Tennis Podcast is produced weekly year-round, and daily during the Grand Slam tournaments. It is crowdfunded by listeners each December.
