Tennessee Titans owner Amy Adams Strunk on Frank Wycheck: 'He will always be cherished'

Tennessee Titans controlling owner Amy Adams Strunk issued a statement Sunday about the death of Frank Wycheck, one of the most productive and most beloved players in franchise history.

"We are all devastated to hear the news of Frank’s passing. He was loved by so many, and his memory will always be cherished," Adams Strunk said in her statement. "Frank’s name was synonymous with Titans football. He was such a huge part of our team’s success both on and off the field. He embraced this community and fan base immediately, and everyone loved him right back."

Wycheck's 4,958 receiving yards are the most among tight ends in Titans/Oilers franchise history and the seventh most among all players. He also ranks third in receptions and 10th in touchdowns, but his most famous contribution was his involvement as the lateral thrower in the Music City Miracle.

With Buffalo Bills defender Sam Rogers (59) moving in, Tennessee Titans' Frank Wycheck laterals the ball across the field to teammate Kevin Dyson at Adelphia Coliseum in the AFC Wild Card game Jan. 8, 2000.

"On the field he always seemed to be open and making key plays – he was even part of a Miracle," Adams Strunk continued. "He worked to become one of the greatest NFL tight ends of his era, evidenced by his three Pro Bowl appearances. Off the field he was as approachable as anyone could ever be. Following his playing career, he continued his connection with our fans and community through his radio career, and his voice became one of the most recognizable in Middle Tennessee.

"His on field work and accomplishments rightfully led to his induction in our Ring of Honor, cementing his legacy in our team’s lore."

Wycheck's family announced on Sunday that Wycheck had died the previous day after falling and hitting his head in his home in Chattanooga. He was 52.

Wycheck, who was picked in the sixth round by Washington in the 1993 draft, played with the Titans from 1995 to 2003, when he retired at age 32.
