Tennessee baseball vs. Southern Miss in weather delay at NCAA super regional Game 1

HATTIESBURG, Miss. − Tennessee baseball and Southern Miss entered a second weather delay Saturday 13 minutes after the first one concluded.

The Golden Eagles led Tennessee 4-0 in the fifth inning at Pete Taylor Park at the time of the second delay at 5:05 p.m. CT. Tennessee left the ballpark and returned to its hotel to wait out the second delay.

A 1-hour, 35-minute delay concluded at 4:52 after starting at 3:17.

Play resumed with Southern Miss starter Billy Oldham returning to the mound to strike out Christian Moore on his second pitch after the game returned. UT had two runners on and two outs with a 2-2 count on Moore at the time of the first delay.

Vols pitcher Camden Sewell entered and got three strikeouts in the top of the fifth.

Tennessee (41-19) won the Clemson Regional to reach the super regional for the third straight season, taking out No. 4 Clemson in the process. Southern Miss (45-18) won the Auburn Regional, which included a win against No. 13-seeded Auburn.

Both Tennessee and Southern Miss submitted bids to host prior to the postseason, which included hosting a super regional. Neither team was a national seed, which meant the decision was made by the NCAA committee. NCAA media representative Jeff Williams said in a statement prior to the onset of the tournament that the committee would weigh the “merits of the bids” in selecting a host.
