Taylor, Mayfield better than Dolphins QBs, WR Landry says

Tyrod Taylor hasn't played a game in Cleveland. Baker Mayfield hasn't seen a single NFL snap.

But newly acquired Browns wide receiver Jarvis Landry is already impressed with what he's seen from his new quarterbacks.

"The quarterback play is so important, which has got me that much more excited about Tyrod (Taylor) and (Baker Mayfield) and the way that they're throwing the ball out here, it makes me that much more excited," Landry told the Cleveland Plain Dealer on Thursday. "It's a lot better than what I had in Miami. I'm excited about that."

Landry is heading into his first season with Cleveland after being traded from the Miami Dolphins and signing five-year, $75 million extension in April.

He earned three Pro Bowl selections over his four seasons with the Dolphins and racked up 2,123 yards and 13 touchdowns in 32 games over the past two seasons with the Dolphins, catching passes from Ryan Tannehill, Matt Moore and Jay Cutler.

"I think Tannehill's skill level and the way that he was playing the year we went to the playoffs (in 2016) before his injury was at a high level and he could have took us to a championship or whatever or whatnot, but it didn't happen," Landry said. "Things happen in the NFL and we moved past it and the next season we had Jay Cutler and I love Jay. I love Jay. I really do."

Despite drafting Heisman Trophy winner Mayfield with the No. 1 overall pick in this year's draft, the Browns plan to roll with Taylor in the interim. Cleveland acquired Taylor by sending the 65th overall pick to the Buffalo Bills, who started their own rebuild by drafting Josh Allen.

Landry said he is looking forward to teaming up with Taylor to prove their former teams wrong.

"Whether it was they didn't want us or they had other plans to go in different directions or they were trying to save money... I think the purpose of us being here is to show them why and to win games here in this uniform which hasn't really been done," Landry said.
