Tale of the Tape: Top Receivers – Michael Mayer vs. Jeremiah Hunter
For the first time, we can say Notre Dame legitimately sizes up well with the top producer at a skills position when it comes to California. Then again, we already knew going into the season that Michael Mayer is a beast. Even if his early numbers don’t look that good and they’re reflective of an Irish offense that has struggled mightily, we know he has the talent. The question is whether Drew Pyne will know to look for him at the right moments.
In spite of what Mayer is, the Bears’ Jeremiah Hunter has had the better year to this point. No, it isn’t by much, but the numbers don’t lie. In fact, these numbers don’t indicate that there is any big receiver on either side to look out for when these teams meet. It’s becoming more difficult to predict what skill players will decide this game, and it’s almost impossible to think it will be someone for the Irish.
