Swear jar speech: Alabama football DC Kevin Steele's halftime words were unrepeatable

Alabama football's 42-28 win over LSU Saturday wasn't by any means its first time rebounding after halftime defensively, but defensive coordinator Kevin Steele's halftime speech clearly stood out more than usual.

At least, it stood out to Terrion Arnold.

"If I told you what coach Steele said in there, they probably wouldn't want me doing media," Arnold said with a laugh.

Suffice it to say, the veteran coach let his displeasure be known in no uncertain terms after Alabama allowed 21 first-half points, including a 75-yard march in the final minute to tie the game 21-all. Steele might have to drop a few bucks in the swear jar, but after the Crimson Tide allowed just seven second-half points to college football's top-ranked offense, it was a small price to pay.

"Coach Steele just goes in there and gets us fired up, and in the second half, we can go out there and make adjustments," Arnold added. "... The biggest adjustment was communication. They had a lot of mesh concepts. They ran crash seven. It was communicating, and overcommunicating. On defense, when you overcommunicate, and you can alert what we're going to go to before it happens, it makes you 10 times more successful. And we did a better job of doing that in the second half."

The second-half showing by the Alabama defense continued an impressive trend. UA hasn't allowed more than seven second-half points in six of its last seven games, including second-half shutouts of South Florida and Tennessee.
