Alexy signs with Atlantic League team: Twin Valley grad A.J. Alexy, a right-handed pitcher, has signed with the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs of the Independent Atlantic League.

Alexy, 25, was released by the Chicago White Sox last month while with Triple-A Charlotte.

He was activated by the Blue Crabs on July 25.

In four games in relief with Southern Maryland through Friday, Alexy was 0-0 with a 2.25 ERA in four innings. He had allowed one hit, walked six and struck out seven.

He went 0-3 with a 12.00 ERA in 16 games, four of them starts, for Charlotte this season. In 21 innings, he allowed 13 hits and struck out 21, but walked 41. He also hit five batters. He was released July 1.

Alexy was selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 11th round of the 2016 draft.

In nine major league appearances with the Texas Rangers, Alexy went 4-2 with a 6.30 ERA. In 30 innings, he allowed 23 hits, struck out 23 and walked 26.

He was the first pitcher in major league history to go five shutout innings or longer and allow one hit or fewer in each of his first two career appearances, both starts, since 1893, when the mound was set at 60 feet, 6 inches from home plate. He made his major league debut on Aug. 30, 2021.
