Swanson's bat heating up, but temper expectations

Colin Henderson balances Atlanta Braves SS Dansby Swanson's recent surge with some concerning underlying numbers.

Video Transcript

COLIN HENDERSON: Dansby Swanson's bat looks like it's beginning to wake up, as he went deep on Sunday, his second home run in three games and the third of this month. That brings his total to four long balls on the year, to go along with a .229 average, 16 RBIs, 19 runs scored, and four stolen bases. While it's nice to see the former number 1 overall pick get his power stroke going, it's his strikeout totals that give managers pause, especially in [INAUDIBLE]. He's in the bottom 4 percentile in the league in both K percentage and whiff percentage, striking out 47 times already in just 118 at bats.

While the strikeouts are up, so are stolen bases, with four already on the year. Breaking his career high of 10 swipes in a season looks extremely doable. A 25 home run, 15 stolen base year could still be in the works for Swanson, which keeps him firmly on Fantasy radars. Just don't be expecting the 28-year-old to suddenly jump into a top 12 option at the position any time soon.
