Sutter hosts Yamhill-Carlton Friday: HC Taylor Pack, River Valley take aim at Oregon's top 3A program Saturday

Mar. 27—The Sutter Union High softball team continues to obliterate its competition, capped by a run-rule 24-0 win over Lindhurst in a Pioneer Valley League contest Tuesday to move to 11-0 on the year. Ten of the Huskies' wins have come by the run-rule as Sutter is leaving no mercy at this stage in the season. Up next for Stefanie Danna's program is a new team making a trip to Northern California for the weekend. Yamhill-Carlton, of Oregon, will make Sutter its first stop in NorCal Friday at 4 p.m. on the campus of Sutter Union HS.

Sutter hosts Marysville in league today at 4 p.m.

The Tigers have won three of their first four this spring, and are ranked No. 1 in the Oregon Sports Activities Association 3A state poll. Last year, YC won 25 games and finished top-10 in the state of Oregon in MaxPreps' computerized rankings system updated each Monday through the season.

MaxPreps does not poll coaches, sportswriters or fans. Nor does our staff make any judgments on the merits of any individual team. Prior season history, school size and comments on message boards are not considered in the MaxPreps Computer Rankings.

The system utilizes the huge number of game results stored in the MaxPreps database. Generally, the more a team wins, the higher the ranking. However, the system takes into account quality wins (against other highly ranked opponents) and strength of schedule. For example, a team's ranking is hurt more by losing to a team that is ranked below them than a team ranked ahead, MaxPreps stated.

Other factors that will affect the rankings are times when MaxPreps has incomplete or inaccurate information. MaxPreps will correct errors when they are reported on the team's MaxPreps page.

Movement indicates the up or down movement within the rankings when compared to our previously published rankings. For any additional help with the rankings please email https://support.maxpreps.com/hc/en-us/requests/new.

Central Catholic and Tracy are one-two, respectively, in this week's rankings.

Yamhill-Carlton and Sutter have never met in the MaxPreps era, but the Tigers did face and fall to East Nicolaus in 2022 by a score of 6-0.

Yamhill-Carlton will head a few miles along State Highway 20 toward Marysville on Saturday to open a nonleague game at River Valley (5-5) at 8 a.m. Saturday. The Falcons, a member of the Capital Valley Conference, will host a doubleheader that day with Bradshaw Christian coming to town at 11 a.m. The Pride have won three of their first four to open 2024.

River Valley, which is coached this year by Sutter product and former UCLA national champion Taylor Pack, moves back into league Tuesday to take on rival Yuba City (11-4, 2-0 CVC), ranked in the SJS top-25 this week.

Pack, a career .327 hitter while at UCLA, won a national title over Oklahoma in June 2019. She will come home to Sutter on May 6 when the Huskies host River Valley in a nonleague battle at SUHS.
