SUNY Oneonta men's soccer falls in 2nd round of NCAA tourney

Nov. 13—The SUNY Oneonta men's soccer team fell to Washington and Lee 2-1 in the second round of the NCAA Division III tournament on the road Sunday.

Grant McCarty put the Generals in front five minutes in. The Red Dragons dominated possession throughout the rest of the first half but couldn't capitalize on any opportunities.

Weyimi Agbeyegbe found the net early in the second half to give Washington and Lee a 2-0 advantage before John Bernardi put Oneonta on the board in the 67th minute to cut into the lead.

Nate Hanna finished the game with two saves in goal for Oneonta.

The win came a day after the Red Dragons defeated Catholic University 2-1 in the first round of the tournament.

After a scoreless first half, Oneonta scored twice in 30 seconds in the second half.

Luigi Prosperi opened the scoring in the 56th minute and was followed soon after by Milton Mancias Magana who made it 2-0.

Catholic would score less than a minute later but the Red Dragons held on for the one-goal victory.

Oneonta ends the season with a 15-4-3 overall record.

MEN'S BASKETBALL

Yeshiva 84, SUNY Oneonta 79 (Saturday) John Carroll 106, SUNY Oneonta 75 (Sunday)

The SUNY Oneonta men's basketball team hosted the Michael A. Freilich Classic and dropped a pair of games to Yeshiva 84-79 Saturday and third-ranked John Carroll 106-75 Sunday.

In Saturday's game, Graham Wooden was the leading scorer for the Red Dragons with 14 points while Javen Flowers-Smith had 13 points and eight rebounds and Elijah Castillo had 12 points in the loss.

Flowers-Smith led the team Sunday with 20 points and five rebounds while Castillo had 13 points and four rebounds in the loss.

Oneonta falls to 1-2 and will visit Division I Lehigh Thursday on the road.

SUNY Cobleskill 74, Hartwick 60 (Saturday)

The Hartwick men's basketball team fell to Cobleskill 74-60 on the road Saturday behind a big second half from the Fighting Tigers.

Daniel Oyediran was the leading scorer for the Hawks with 12 points while Cooper Francis posted a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds in the loss.

Hartwick falls to 0-2 and will return home to take on SUNY Delhi Thursday.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Muhlenberg 64, Hartwick 55 (Saturday)

The Hartwick women's basketball team fell to Muhlenberg 64-55 on the road Saturday.

Isabella Astorino led the Hawks with 15 points and four rebounds, while Bree Fargnoli tallied 11 points and five rebounds in the loss.

Hartwick falls to 0-2 and will host Mount St. Mary College Friday.

WRESTLING

The SUNY Oneonta wrestling team went 5-0 at the Electric City Duals in Scranton, Pa., Sunday as head coach Duane Ritter recorded his 200th career dual match victory at Oneonta.

Jack Ryan led the Red Dragons with four victories by pin while Adonis Morano, Santos Ocasio and Kenneth Sauer had two pins apiece.

Oneonta will be at RIT this Saturday for the ECWC Championships.

SWIMMING

The Hartwick and SUNY Oneonta swim teams competed against each other Saturday with the Hawks winning both meets.

The women triumphed 182-88 while the men won 183-101.

Cate Russo and Elaine Chen led the Hartwick women with three wins apiece. Russo took first in the 100, 200 and 500 freestyle swims while Chen won the 100 and 200 breaststroke and the 400 individual medley.

Bree Dy had a pair of wins in the 100 and 200 backstroke.

Also winning for Hartwick were Ellie Baird (1000 free), Dani Decarlo (200 butterfly), Courtney Pierce (50 free) and Marielle Rodriguez (diving).

Anna McCall notched Oneonta's lone win in the 100 butterfly.

For the Hartwick men, Mikey Schultz had three victories in the 100 and 200 butterfly and the 400 IM.

Cameron Drake (500 free, 1000 free) and Hassan Abdelwahad (100 breaststroke, 200 breaststroke) each won twice while Jack Armstrong took first in the diving.

Oneonta's Mason Delisio had three firsts in the 50, 100 and 200 freestyle events.

James Llewellyn added wins in the 100 and 200 backstroke.

FOOTBALL

The Hartwick football team's season came to a close with a 38-13 loss to SUNY Morrisville at home Saturday.

Dennis Riordan tallied 207 passing yards and had one passing and one rushing touchdown for the Hawks while Nate Rath tallied 42 receiving yards and one touchdown.

Carlvin McDonald was the leading rusher for the Hawks, tallying 47 yards as well as 42 receiving yards.

Hartwick finishes the season 1-9 overall and 0-6 in Empire 8 play.
