SUNY Oneonta men hold off New Paltz 58-51

Jan. 8—The SUNY Oneonta men's basketball team notched its first conference win of the season Saturday with a 58-51 triumph over SUNY New Paltz.

Elijah Castillo led the way with 15 points, seven rebounds and four assists while Graham Wooden scored 12 points and Xavier Hill finished with 10.

The Red Dragons (4-7 overall, 1-2 SUNYAC) will host SUNY Oswego Tuesday.

Houghton 93, Hartwick 76 (Saturday)

Hartwick couldn't keep pace with Houghton's high-powered offense in a 93-76 road loss Saturday.

Daniel Oyediran scored a team-best 18 points, Tarrell Cumberbatch had 15 points and Henry Perkins had a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Hartwick (1-10 overall, 0-4 Empire 8) will host Alfred this Friday.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

SUNY New Paltz 72, SUNY Oneonta 52 (Saturday)

The SUNY Oneonta women fell to SUNY New Paltz 72-52 Saturday.

After trailing by one in the first quarter, the Red Dragons were held to just four points in the second quarter and never recovered.

Molly Stephens scored a team-high 16 points while Amanda Zuntag had 10 points and six rebounds.

Oneonta (2-8 overall, 0-3 SUNYAC) will be at home against SUNY Oswego Tuesday.

The Hartwick women dropped a 77-57 road contest to Houghton Saturday.

Leading the scoring for the Hawks were Bree Fargnoli with 19 points, Isabella Astorino with 10 and Sareena DiCerbo with 10.

Hartwick (3-8 overall, 1-3 Empire 8) will host Alfred Friday.

WRESTLING

The SUNY Oneonta wrestling team was at Ursinus College Saturday for the Manganaro Duals.

The Red Dragons went 2-2 on the day with wins over the United States Merchant Marine Academy and Shippensburg to improve to 9-2.

Aydin DeForest (165 pounds), Carson LiCastri (197) and Jack Ryan (184) each had three victories while Danny Poggi (133) and Max Yahre (157) both won twice.

Oneonta will be at Gettysburg College Thursday for a tri-match between the Bullets and Muhlenberg.
