Sturgis wrestlers beat Centreville

STURGIS — The Sturgis wrestling team won over visiting Centreville on Wednesday evening.

The Trojans picked up the dual matchup win by a score of 49-27.

"They are wrestling with more confidence and it is really starting to show," Sturgis coach Brady Barkby said of his team.

The match started at 106 pounds with Easton Barkby and Josue Galvan (113) each winning by void. Centreville's Rockne Hamilton then won over Lola Barkby (120) by a 9-2 score before Jacob Lewis (126) of SHS won over Holtz Hamilton with a 13-1 final.

The next four bouts were won by pinfall — Kaiden Waldron (132), Diego Munoz (138) of Sturgis and Braxton Harker (144) and DeAndre Stout (150) of Centreville.

Sturgis' Angel Alverez won by a close 5-3 decision over Noah Brooks at 157 pounds.

The five final bouts were decided by pin. Winning for Sturgis was Aaron Castro (165), Anthony Cumacho (175) and Alex Valdez (190). Centreville's pin wins were by Aiden Kohlhoff (215) and Peyton Schuring-Harris (285).

White Pigeon grapplers win twice

The White Pigeon wrestling team won a pair of matches on Wednesday. The victories came over Concord 72-9 and Quincy 57-21.

Mazzy Lambert won both of his matches and earned his 100th career victory.

David Lane won both of his bouts by void at 106. Also picking up a pair of wins for the Chiefs were Maddix Jancasz (132), Jesse Fielis (144), Evan Rudloff (157), Blake Alldridge (165), Caleb Lane (175), Seth Miller (215) and Chaz Underwood (285).

Earning at least one victory for the Chiefs was Drew Johnson (120), Hunter Pant (126), Luke Hinkson (150) and Norberto Monroy at 190.

Bronson wins twice

The Bronson wrestling team won twice on Wednesday, beating Paw Paw 49-21 and Schoolcraft 45-27. This story appears in Friday's edition of the Journal.

Carson Norton (150) did pick up his 100th career victory on Wednesday.
