Sturgis tennis wins again at home

STURGIS — The Sturgis tennis team has had a busy week with plenty of matches on the courts.

That continued on Thursday afternoon with a make-up dual matchup against visiting Plainwell. The Trojans in blue and white were supposed to play those in orange and black last week, but because of weather, the match had to be moved.

The 10th-ranked Trojans already had conference victories in the hand against Vicksburg (6-2) and Three Rivers (8-0) from earlier in the week.

On Thursday, they continued the solid streak, beating Plainwell 8-0 at Augspurger Courts. It was the fifth consecutive conference win for Sturgis on the season.

Sturgis made quick work of the match as well. The Trojans earned wins in all eight flights and each of those flights lasted only two sets.

Singles play was even more impressive as all four Sturgis players held their opponents to double bagels. That is, none of their opponents were able to win a game against them and finished the match with Sturgis winning 6-0, 6-0. Picking up those victories for Sturgis were George Ebert at No. 1 singles, Grady Miller at No. 2 singles, Christian Perry at third singles and Preston Gump at No. 4 singles.

Luke Frost and Draker Harker won over Andrew Hampton and Teagan Wilson in No. 1 doubles play. Their scores were 6-1 and 6-1.
