Sturgis bowlers take out Otsego

OTSEGO — The Sturgis bowling teams went on the road and took care of business on Wednesday.

The boys improved to 6-0 overall and 4-0 in conference play, the girls improved to 5-1 overall and 4-0 in Wolverine play as well.

"Good work tonight by both squads," Sturgis coach Scott Spahr said. "Every outing finds them a little more cohesive and a little better overall."

The boys won their match, 22-8. They split baker games by dropping the first 221-171, but winning the second at 180-143.

Team games saw Sturgis win 818-679 and 959-717 for a 1,777-1,396 total pin win. Caleb Henson-Bohlen led the way with games of 178 and 249 for a 426 series. Josh Groff fired games of 168 and 213 (381), Lane Malone added games of 193 and 185 for a 378. Brayden Smoker shot two games for a 300 total, Andrew Matz bowled a single game at 157.

The girls also won 22-8. They dropped the first baker 160-143 but rallied to win the second 148-105. Team games saw the Trojans win 733-596 and 762-704. This gave them a total pin win at 1,495-1,300.

Kortnie Matz had games of 180 and 170 for 350. Donna Henson-Bohlen shot games of 169 and 161 (330) while Jaden Moore fired 125 and 135 (260). Miley Holden shot 155, Lydia Boland added a 147.

On Sunday, the Trojans traveled to take part in the Mason College Prep tournament.

"Both squads had some struggles, beyond being short handed, but this was a perfect day to work on self confidence and playing through the hard times," Spahr said.

The girls finished fourth with 3,495 pins knocked down over three team and three baker games. Mason finished with 4,211. The boys finished sixth with 4,076 pins. Mason finished first there as well with 5,010 pins.

The boys were led by Henson-Bohlen, he shot a 537 series while Josh Groff fired games of 157, 171 and 141 for a 469. Smoker shot a 448, Lane Malone added a 423 series and Kasey Shank shot 134, 114 and 138 for 386.

The girls were led by Boland with a 452 series. Khara Kimes shot games of 178, 135 and 119 for a 432 while Kami Kimes fired a 421 series. Henson-Bohlen shot a 394, Baumeister shot a 257.
