Strawberry to be the guest speaker at the March 14 FCA banquet

Feb. 16—MOULTRIE — Eight-time Major League Baseball All-Star and three-time World Series champion Darryl Strawberry will be the guest speaker at the annual Fellowship of Christian Athletes banquet.

The dinner will be held on Thursday, March 14, at Heritage Church on Georgia Highway 33 South and benefits the Colquitt County FCA.

Sponsorships include:

—Corporate, $5,000, which includes 12 seats to the banquet, pictures with the guest speaker, autographed items by the guest speaker, logos in programs and other printed materials, recognition during the program as a presenting sponsor and a team of four in the annual FCA golf tournament.

—Gold, $2,500, includes 12 seats to the banquet, pictures with the guest speaker, autographed items by the guest speaker, logo on programs and other printed materials and recognition during the program as a presenting sponsor.

—Silver, $1,250, six seats to the banquet, small autographed items by the guest speaker, pictures with the guest speaker and sponsorship recognition in the program and on your table.

—Bronze, $750, six seats to the banquet, sponsorship recognition in the program and on your table.

The 1983 National League Rookie of the Year, Strawberry played 17 years in the major leagues, hitting 335 home runs and driving in 1,000 runs.

His most productive years were spent with the New York Mets, but he also played for the Los Angeles Dodgers, the San Francisco Giants and the New York Yankees.

The Mets will retire Strawberry's No. 18 jersey on June 1.

According to his Wikipedia page, Strawberry has battled substance and alcohol abuse during his life but is now an evangelical born-again Christian and has appeared on The Trinity Broadcasting Network.

In 1999, he appeared on evangelist Benny Hinn's TV program giving his testimony.

Strawberry has also appeared on The 700 Club to talk about his life and his newfound faith in Jesus.

On September 26, 2020, Strawberry led a prayer in the 2020 Franklin Graham Prayer March.
