Who is the Storm Works Athlete of the Week in Boys Soccer? You can vote here

Two weeks remain in the soccer regular season. Blink and you’ll miss it.

North Smithfield’s boys and Westerly’s girls are the only teams left unscathed. The Northmen and Bulldogs come into Monday unbeaten and untied. North Kingstown’s boys and Providence Country Day’s girls both suffered a first loss last week. La Salle and Rogers in Division I and Division IV, respectively, did the honors.

That’s the best part about this time of year. The matches take on added importance. They don’t just potentially determine playoff seeding in November – they also carry the promise of a psychological advantage when it matters most.

St. Raphael and Scituate are set for one such boys meeting on Monday. They were both champions in 2022 – the Saints in Division III, the Spartans in Division IV. St. Raphael is looking to hold off Scituate with a potential top seed at stake.

The Skippers will look to bounce back against rival South Kingstown – that's a rematch of the boys Division I final. It’s a game that doesn’t need added layers of intrigue to make it spicy, but we’ll take all we can get. They’re firmly among the contenders again with the Rams, Bishop Hendricken, Cumberland and more.

Division IV boys is down to the wire with Woonsocket, Toll Gate, Davies and Mount Pleasant in contention. Cumberland remains unbeaten in Division I girls, the Spartans haven't lost in Division II girls and the trio of the Vikings, Knights and Johnston top Division IV girls. All of those programs will be looking to take advantage of a final few games to add sharpness and build momentum.

With the schedule melting away as it is, we’re also down to our last few Storm Works Roofing Athlete of Week selections for soccer. Thanks to all the coaches and administrators who continue to report scores. We’re always happy for more – you can reach us Monday-Friday from 6-10 p.m. at (401) 277-7340 or any time at pjsports@providencejournal.com.

Thanks in advance for getting in touch. With that, on to the nominees for the Storm Works Roofing Athlete of the Week from Oct. 9-15.

Zach Bienkiewicz, North Smithfield

The Northmen had their hands full with Pilgrim before pulling away late for a 4-0 win in Division II. North Smithfield nursed a 1-0 lead into the 65th minute before Bienkiewicz scored twice and set up Aidan Bienvenue. The Northmen are a perfect 10-0-0.

Roodley Darius, Mount Pleasant

Darius was on fire in a win against the four-school Providence co-op, collecting two goals and three assists in a 7-1 triumph. The Kilties have won five of their last six and are unbeaten in nine matches, racing into Division IV contention.

Nikolaos Panagos, La Salle

Panagos enjoyed a strong all-around night in a 2-0 shutout of North Kingstown. He made six saves – including a late penalty kick – for a shutout against the top offense in Division I. Panagos also notched an assist, as his long punt in the first half set up an Evan Conceicao header.

Amilton Silva Jr., St. Raphael

The freshman produced a highlight in his young career with a hat trick against Prout. That helped spark the Saints to a 6-1 win in Division III, and the defending champions remain a legitimate threat to repeat.

Michael Strain, West Warwick

Strain had a nice week while leading the Wizards to a pair of Division II victories against Shea and East Greenwich. He collected a hat trick in a 4-2 triumph over the Raiders and was involved in both goals against the Avengers, scoring and chalking up an assist in a 2-0 win.
