Stonewall boys take down Tupelo

Nov. 15—TUPELO — The Stonewall High School boys continued their hot start to the season with a convincing 74-36 victory over Tupelo on the road Friday night.

Coach Wes Moreland's club improved to 3-0 on the young season. The Longhorns host Calvin this Friday night.

"We defended well in the first half. Everyone stepped up on the offensive end tonight. We were pretty balanced," Moreland said.

Meanwhile, Tupelo dropped to 0-3 and is set to host Macomb Thursday night before traveling to Earlsboro on Friday.

Stonewall jumped out to first-half leads of 16-8 and 39-15.

Senior Jamison Carrington led the way for the Longhorns with 19 points, Mika Matt sank a trio of 3-pointers and scored 18 for the visitors and Ashton Bierce also hit double figures with 13 points in the balanced SHS attack. Taegus Pogue was next for Stonewall with eight points and Garrett Gambrell followed with six.

Cash Wafford paced the Tigers with 14 points. His total included four 3-point baskets. Davin Weller and Luke Foreman added five points each.

Roff runs away from Calvin

CALVIN — Roff boys basketball head coach Eric Hardison watched his team turn good defensive plays into points during a 56-39 road win over the Calvin Bulldogs last week.

Roff improved to 2-1 on the season and is scheduled to host Asher on Friday. Calvin fell to 1-1 and is at Stonewall Friday night.

The Tigers led 19-13 after the first quarter against Calvin and held a 28-22 halftime edge. Roff steadily pulled away in the second half, outscoring Calvin 28-18 over the final two frames.

"I thought we did some good things defensively early in the game. It helps when you can score off of your defensive pressure. It was nice to see us get some buckets early," Hardison said.

Maddox McCullar drilled six 3-pointers and erupted for a season-high 21 points for the Tigers.

"Maddox McCullar shot it well from deep and stepped up in the second half to stretch our lead," Hardison said.

Kaden Darnell added 12 points and Caden Gore also reached double figures with 10.

"Darnell and Gore were solid again on both ends of the floor," Hardison said. "And our younger kids came in the ball game in the first half and gave us some really good minutes."

Caden White also hit six triples for Calvin for all 18 of his points. Jace Dickey also recorded double figures with 10.

Vanoss boys fly by Falcons

NEW LIMA — The Vanoss Wolves had 10 different players reach the scoring column in a lopsided 73-15 road win over New Lima last week.

The Wolves improved to 2-2 on the year and will host local rival Latta Friday night.

Against New Lima, Vanoss jumped out to a 16-6 lead after the first quarter and used a 22-5 surge in the second period to take control at halftime at 38-11.

The Wolves then outscored the Falcons 22-2 in the third frame.

Layne Thrower led the balanced VHS offense with 17 points. Karver Trentham followed with 11 points for the Wolves. Both Logan Hulbutta and Cooper Treat also hit double figures with 10 points each.

Allen Esparza scored seven points for the visitors.

New Lima got seven points from Woody Neal and six points from Loqan Peffley.
