Stewart's status still up in the air

Jonathan Stewart won't play again this week for the Carolina Panthers in the preseason.

Stewart, who had surgery on both ankles in the off-season, remains on the physically unable to perform list, and is a candidate to be there when the season opens on Sept. 8 for the Panther against Seattle, reports the Associated Press. If that is the case, then Stewart would have to sit out a minimum of six weeks in the regular season.

"At this point anything is an option," Rivera said following Tuesday's practice. "What you're hoping is you can get him on the football field and we'll see once the doctor gets a chance to look at him."
