Steve Kerr: Kevin Durant won't play again in series vs. Rockets

Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr isn’t letting the lingering Kevin Durant question hang around between games.

Durant left the Warriors’ Game 5 victory over the Houston Rockets with a right calf strain in the third quarter and didn’t return. After undergoing an MRI, Durant was diagnosed with a mild strain. Durant will be re-evaluated next week, according to the team.

He won’t play in the rest of the series against Houston.

Kerr: Durant won’t play vs. Rockets

Kerr assured media Wednesday after the Warriors took a 3-2 series lead it was not an Achilles injury. On Thursday he told reporters that Durant may eventually return this postseason if Golden State advances, but won’t play in the rest of the series against Houston.

"I think it's good news," Kerr told reporters Thursday. "Calf strain, he's had them before. He's responded well. Obviously, we're disappointed he won't be able to play in this series. If we're able to win the series and move on, looks good for his return in the not-too-distant future."

Shaun Livingston said the team decided to “react with a win” in Game 6, per The Athletic. They can clinch the series and a spot in the Western Conference finals with a win Friday in Houston.

Game 7, if necessary, is scheduled for Sunday afternoon at Oracle Arena.

Durant has played at another level in playoffs

Durant has taken over the playoffs for the two-time champions. He’s averaging a team-high 34.2 points per game with 5.2 rebounds and 4.9 assists.

Stephen Curry is averaging a second-best 23.5 points for Golden State. He and Klay Thompson each scored at least 25 points for the first time this playoffs in the Game 5 victory.
