Steelers place Stefen Wisniewski on IR, call up Derwin Gray from PS

The injuries keep piling up for the Pittsburgh Steelers offensive line. First the Steelers put offensive tackle Zach Banner on IR after a knee injury and now they are reporting offensive guard Stefen Wisniewski is headed to IR with a pec injury.

In Wisniewski’s place, Pittsburgh has called up offensive guard Derwin Gray from the practice squad. The Steelers also signed offensive tackle Jerald Hawkins from the Houston Texans practice squad to replace Banner.

On Sunday, when the Steelers take on the Denver Broncos they will have a brand new right side of the offensive line for a second straight week. Rookie Kevin Dotson will start at right guard and Chuks Okorafor will get the start at right tackle.

The Steelers signed Wisniewski in the offseason to fill the void left by the sudden retirement of Ramon Foster. With the new rules about IR, Wisniewski is eligible to return after three weeks. It is being reported Wisniewski will not needs surgery so we cannot rule out him returning and playing this season.
