Rams Standout Stars Week Seven
As the Rams head across the pond to take on their division rival Arizona Cardinals, here are cover32/Rams’ picks for Standout Stars, Week seven. Members of the writing team gave input on what Ram would need to produce in order to come out within a win in London.
Andrew Kelly (@Andrew_K47) – Cooper Kupp
Will Sunday be the day the Kupp Runneth Over? It sure stands to reason that Cooper Kupp will have his way with Arizona’s 26th-ranked pass defense. His connection with Goff has been solid from day one, and he’s emerged into more than just a security blanket for the Rams QB. The “rookie” wide receiver will look to enjoy some tea and crumpets in the Cardinals end zone.
Christian Gotzman (@C_Gotzman) – Jared Goff
Similarly, week 7 could be a big day for Rams second-year signal-caller Jared Goff. Given the Cardinals relatively weak secondary and marginal pass rush, we could be in for some fireworks from #16 in Twickenham (yes, that’s the name of our “home field” on Sunday). Look for Kupp, Woods, Watkins, and Gurley to eat on Sunday. Given that Arizona also ranks 24th against the run, our potent play-action game will keep the Gridbirds guessing all day long.
Brian Joanou (@Brian81277) – Michael Brockers
Ever since defensive coordinator Wade Phillips moved Brockers to defensive end in his 3-4 scheme, the results have been phenomenal. Playing alongside all-world DT Aaron Donald, Brockers is more than just a beneficiary of his linemate’s dominance — he’s having a Pro Bowl caliber season himself. Look for the sixth-year stud to stuff Adrian Peterson and the last-ranked Cardinal rushing offense, turning Arizona into a one-dimensional unit.
Scott Wagner (@hotdaddywags) – Trumaine Johnson
If the Rams stop Peterson, Carson Palmer will target Larry Fitzgerald early and often, and the man shadowing the first-ballot Hall of Famer will be franchise cornerback Trumaine Johnson. Fitz will get his – he always does – but if the Rams defense as a whole continues its high level of play, Johnson will have his share of opportunities to make some plays. When pressured, Palmer throws some ducks, and look for Tru to try and collect a few trophies across the pond. W. Scott Wagner is a staff writer for cover32.com/Rams and covers the Los Angeles Rams.
