Stan Jesky, longtime Zeeland coach, athletic director, dies at 79

ZEELAND - Longtime Zeeland football coach and athletic diretor Stan Jesky has died.

Jesky died on Friday, Sept. 15, 2023. He was 79.

Jesky, who lived in Georgetown Township, was born on Oct. 31, 1943. His first coaching job was in Minnesota while he was playing minor league baseball.

He was the Zeeland East Athletic Director and football coach with Zeeland High School split into East and West.

Jesky spent 50 years in education and athletics and was the Zeeland Athletic Director from 1988-2008. He was the varsity football coach from 1988-2000 and oversaw the expansion from one school to two schools and the athletic facilities that came with it.

He was 72-49 as Zeeland football coach and was elected to the Zeeland Athletic Hall of Fame in 2017.

Prior to Zeeland, he coached basketball at Hill-Murray School in greater Minneapolis for 10 years, then he moved to Florence, Wis. where he caoched 13 more years of basketball before moving to Zeeland in 1988 and focusing on football.

After leaving Zeeland, he was the men's basketball coach at Kuyper College in Grand Rapids. He also stayed in high school sports as an official.
