Sports shorts: Tokay takes out Eagles in non-league softball

Mar. 8—A six-run third inning put Tokay's 13-3 softball win over McNair out of reach on Thursday as the Tigers improved to 3-1 this season.

Brooklyn Jeremic-Schaede pitched three innings, with Sophia Galletti finishing the last two of a game that ended after five innings due to the 10-run rule. At the plate, Emma Misasi went 3-for-3 with two home runs, four RBIs and four runs, Michelle Estrada went 2-for-2 with three RBIs and two runs, Hannah Hava went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs, and Jeremic-Schaede, Claire Wilson, Anabelle Sikich, Cloe Alves and Galletti each singled.

Tokay will play at Edison on Tuesday.

BASEBALL

Varsity: Galt 11, Union Mine 6

The Warriors opened Sierra Valley Conference play on Thursday with a victory, with a 2-for-3 day from Giovanni Sterni with a double, two RBIs and two runs, a 2-for-4 day with two RBIs from Seth Henke, a single and three RBIs from Nick Reid, a single and two runs each from Anthony Arriaga and James McGranahan, and singles from Wyatt Wetzel, Tyler Watts, Anthony Trejo and Michael Perucca.

Galt (2-2) will host Argonaut in a non-conference game on Monday.

Varsity: Liberty Ranch 6, Rosemont 1

The Hawks also opened conference play on Thursday, with a complete-game effort from Kae Lecompte. The junior allowed three hits and an unearned run in six innings of work, with seven strikeouts.

At the plate, Nolan House went 2-for-2 with a double, Theodore Seidel went 2-for-3, Vance Moe had a double and two runs, Derek Nelson had two RBIs, and Lecompte and Andrew Guthrie each singled.

Liberty Ranch was scheduled to play Amador on Friday, and will host Union Mine on Tuesday.
