Sports shorts: Flames post narrow win over Edison

Dec. 13—Giuseppe Guidi and Sean Tetz led the way in Lodi's 56-53 boys basketball win over Edison on Tuesday, with 17 points from Guidi and 16 from Tetz.

Drew Tetz and Noah Rivera each scored 7 points, Ryan Marini scored 6, Nathan Morse had 2 and Matt Shinn had 1 as the Flames improved to 5-2.

Lodi will start play in the Clayton Valley Charter Classic on Thursday, starting with a game against San Joaquin Memorial (also 5-2) out of Fresno.

Varsity boys: Oakdale 81, Tokay 75

Jason Hallstrom led the Tigers with 22 points in Tuesday's loss, along with 17 from Jacob Ray, 10 from John Carlo Agbayani, 9 each from Macus Shoneff and Zeeshaun Akbar, 4 from Hashir Khan, and 2 each from Abdullah Munir and Baris Barakaci.

Tokay (4-7) was scheduled to play at Stagg on Wednesday.

Varsity boys: Liberty Ranch 40, Golden Valley 32

The Hawks won their second game in a row to improve to 3-8, and will host Escalon on Friday.

Varsity boys: Galt 59, Delta 51

Carson Cagle led the Warriors to their first victory on Tuesday, racking up 37 points and 9 rebounds.

Wilson Garcia added 13 points, Zavion Mitchell had 4 points and 10 rebounds, Joshua Dimapilis had 3 points, and Micah Jones had 2 points and 8 boards.

Galt (1-5) will play Delhi in the Delhi Winter Classic at 8 p.m. today.

JV boys: Edison 74, Lodi 68

The JV Flames lost on Tuesday, with 24 points from Jackson Butler and 13 from Xavier Davis, with strong defense from Max Tovar and Noah Hufford.

Lodi (7-3) will play in the Edison Tournament over the weekend.

At last weekend's Rocklin Tournament, Lodi lost 58-54 to Rocklin on Friday, with 16 points from Habib Khan and 15 from Matt Biglieri, along with 6 rebounds each from Noah Hufford and Noah Munoz.

In the third-place game on Saturday, Lodi beat Bella Vista 58-38, with 20 points from Khan and 14 from Butler, with defense from Cooper Mettler and Tyler Prontz. Davis was selected to the all-tournament team.

JV boys: Oakdale 49, Tokay 44

Jackson Batch and Asher Pitchford each scored 12 to lead the Tigers in Tuesday's loss, along with 8 from Joseph Rodriguez, 4 from Jacob Garibaldi, 2 each from Amire Fleming, Noah Gutierrez and Adrian Vasquez, and 1 each from Christian Mitchell and Angel Hernandez.

Freshman boys: Oakdale 46, Tokay 30

The Tigers lost on Tuesday, with 6 points from Tanjiro Wallace, 5 from Adeeb Totakhil, 4 each from Nathan Nash, Fakhir Khan and Tristan Domingo, 3 from Waahib Khan, and 2 each from Mason Victor and Lucas Victor.

Varsity girls: Lodi 2, Sierra 2

The Flames tied in non-league play on Tuesday in Manteca, a far different result from Saturday's 3-0 loss to Sierra at Sierra's tournament.

Samantha Stone and Jocelyn Maldonado each scored a goal, both with assists from Aubrey Anderson. The Flames (8-2-1) will play at Stagg on Friday.

Varsity boys: Turlock 3, Lodi 0

Lodi dropped to 3-6 with Tuesday's loss, and will play at Armijo today in Fairfield.

Varsity girls: Liberty Ranch 7, Escalon 0

The Hawks scored 5 in the first half to cruise to their first victory on Tuesday, with 2 goals each from Maryn Rogers and Yoselin Del Toro, and one each from Libby Portillo, Fatima Lopez and Juliana Romero.

Ellianna Keiser and Bailey Alcoriza tallied 2 assists each, while Portillo, Romero and Gianna Graham had one each.

Varsity boys: Liberty Ranch 4, Escalon 0

Alonso Villasenor had a had trick on Tuesday, scoring 3 goals in a win over Escalon. Danny Suarez scored one as Liberty Ranch notched its first win.

The Hawks will play at Ponderosa on Dec. 21.
