Hornets girls tennis wins

Wilson Memorial beat Fort Defiance 8-1 in girls tennis Thursday.

"Credit to the Wilson team, they are one of the top teams in the Shenandoah District," said Fort coach John Edgecomb. "They have strong, experienced players at almost every position. They are to be congratulated."

“I knew we would continue to rebuild this season," Edgecomb said. "Every team experiences such. It was our goal to gain experience, reduce unforced errors, and continually improve our level of play. Today this team demonstrated their character; their maturity. I am excited for them.”

Storm boys tennis win thriller

Staunton defeated Waynesboro in boys tennis Thursday, winning 5-4 in a nailbiter that came down to a final tiebreaker at No. 2 doubles.

Staunton's Elias Hardy and Sawyer Tuttle won the tiebreaker 7-5 to win the set 9-8.

Other Staunton winners were Laurel Shelton and Jonah Heishman at No. 1 doubles (9-7) and Shelton at No. 1 singles (8-6). Tuttle won at No. 4 singles (8-5) and Garrett Kane at No. 5 singles (8-6).

Staunton improved to 3-5 overall and 3-3 in the Shenandoah District this season.
