Specialized play it safe with relatively modest tweaks to the 2024 Stumpjumper
Specialized has today launched 2024 versions of its carbon Stumpjumper range (including a brand new LTD edition) along with an updated S-Works Epic LTD and an S-Works Epic Evo LTD. Along with a number of other spec changes, the brand has gone all out with SRAM's latest Eagle Transmission drivetrains, with the three existing tiers appearing across various new bike models depending on application and price point.
The current generation of Stumpjumper and Epic frames have been around since 2020, which compared to the usual pace of change in the bike industry, is longer than we'd normally expect for a very popular model. Given the glut of existing stock that brands have been left with after the frenzy for bikes dropped off post-Covid, brand new models have been somewhat slower to appear. Obviously it makes sense for brands to try and shift their existing stock before launching with completely new bikes.
That Specialized and others are making their existing models more attractive by decking them out with up to date components such as SRAM Transmission drivetrains is good news though. As it would appear they've now shifted enough stock (such as regular AXS) from their inventory to enable them release bikes bristling with the latest gear – with all-new models following in the not too distant future.
Another very positive indicator is that invitations to launches for brand new 2025 bikes are now starting to drop into our inboxes here at Bike Perfect. Hopefully this means the gloom that has been sitting over the bike industry for a fair old while now is finally starting to lift.
But back to the bikes. At present we only have UK prices for the 2024 models and the specs may well be different in other territories anyway. The Stumpjumper S-Works comes in at £11,000 and the S-Works Epic LTD models at £12,500. The other four Stumpy models come in at £8,000 for the Pro, £7,000 for the LTD, £5,750 for the Expert and £3,900 for the carbon Comp model. Compared to the 2023 Stumpjumpers, prices have risen by £1,000 for the S-Works model, £250 for the Pro and £250 for Expert model, while the Comp version is £350 cheaper.
Stumpjumper S-Works: Upgraded drivetrain to SRAM XX1 Eagle Transmission AXS, plus Code Stealth Ultimate brakes spec, 29er wheels front and rear.
Stumpjumper Pro T-Type: SRAM XO1 AXS drivetrain upgraded to XO Eagle Transmission AXS with Stealth Code Silver brakes.
Stumpjumper LTD T-Type: A new model with RockShox Ultimate Pike and Deluxe shock, a SRAM GX Eagle Transmission AXS drivetrain and mullet wheels.
Stumpjumper Expert T-Type: SRAM XO1 wired drivetrain gets an upgrade to GX Eagle Transmission AXS and Stealth brakes.
Stumpjumper Comp: Was a previously kitted out with Shimano SLX, but now changes to a wired SRAM GX Eagle drivetrain with G2 RS brakes.
Epic S-Works LTD and Epic S-Works Evo LTD: Both models upgraded to SRAM XX SL Eagle Transmission AXS drivetrains.
All the 2024 Stumpjumpers are based around the FACT 11m, Boost width, UDH, full carbon (chassis and rear-end), 130mm travel frames. They all come with SWAT in-frame storage and a geometry-altering flip-chip that gives a head tube angle of 65 degrees and 333mm (328mm in size S1) BB height in the low setting, or a 65.5-degree head tube angle and 340mm (335mm in size S1) BB height when flipped into the high setting. Reach is as you'd expect on a bike such as this – 410mm on the S1, 430mm S2, 450mm S3, 475mm S4, 500mm S5 and 530mm on the S6 in the low setting. Switching to the high setting increases the reach by 5mm in each size.
The XC-orientated S-Works Epic LTD model runs a FACT 12m carbon, Boost width, UDH, full carbon, 100mm travel frame. Reach is 415mm (S), 445mm (M), 470mm (L), and 495mm (XL). The head tube angle is 67.5 degrees, with a seat tube angle of 75.5 degrees (75.8 on the size S).
The S-Works Epic Evo LTD uses the same frame but with 110mm travel which modifies the geometry specs. Reach on this bike is 406mm (S), 436mm (M), 460mm (L), and 485mm (XL). It has a head tube angle of 66.5 degrees and a seat tube angle of 74.5 degrees (74.8 degrees on S).
All the bikes are available now in the UK.
