Southern men finish third, women fifth at SBU Invitational

Apr. 1—BOLIVAR, Mo. — The Missouri Southern State University men's track and field team finished third and the women's squad was fifth at the Southwest Baptist University Invitational on Saturday in Bolivar.

Though Southern did not have all of its squad at the meet, there were a number of notable performances turned in by Lion athletes Saturday.

On the women's side, Mya Ferguson took first in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.69; Caire Cole was fourth with a time of 16.60.

Kirsten Womack won the discus with a 47.8-meter throw and Briar Gillum was fourth (45.55 meters).

Katie Candrl finished fourth in the pole vault with a 3.82-meter vault.

On the men's side, Jon Watts won the long jump with a 7.6-meter leap and Travis Greenfield took first in the pole vault with a 4.86-meter vault.

JaDarius Pigg set a new school record in the 110-meter hurdles, running it in 13.94 seconds and taking second place. Malachi Pipkin was closely behind, coming in third with a time of 13.95.

Peyton Barton was runner-up in the discus with a 53.19-meter throw and Luke Brumit tied for second in the high jump with a 1.99-meter jump.

Caleb Manning was fourth in the triple jump with a 14.68-meter jump.

Pittsburg State University captured both the men's and women's titles.

MSSU men and women will compete this Saturday at the 16th annual David Suenram Gorilla Classic at PSU.
