Top Performances Week 1

Lamar Best, Willingboro. Best finished 15-of-20 passing for 372 yards and tied a school record with 6 touchdown throws in a 55-0 rout of Mastery Charter Saturday. Ah-Shaun Davis set the previous mark against Camden Catholic in 2019.

Ronnie Borden, No. Burlington. Borden was 12-of-19 for 219 yards and 4 touchdowns as the Greyhounds shut out Pemberton 41-0 on Thursday.

Charles Clark, Vineland. Clark ran 11 times for 151 yards and 3 scores as the Fighting Clan blanked Bridgeton 53-0 on Friday to give new coach Jose Guzman his first victory.

Week 1 roundup: South Jersey high school football roundup for Week 1

DeAngello Conquest, Overbrook. The Rams quarterback nearly matched his career rushing total in one game Thursday, turning 18 carries into 182 yards and 3 touchdowns in a 36-34 triumph over Bordentown. He had 186 in his previous three seasons combined. Conquest was also 8-of-16 passing for 104 yards and a TD.

Sah’nye Degraffenreidt, Atlantic City. Degraffenreidt hauled in 6 passes for 173 yards and 3 touchdowns as the Vikings toppled Clearview 28-12 on Friday.

Aamir Dunbar, Cedar Creek. Dunbar starred in a 50-48 shootout win over Absegami on Friday. He rushed 20 times for 207 yards and 2 TDs in the triumph.

No apology needed: Finerghty shines despite injury, Cinnaminson football tops Collingswood

Junior Hans, Wildwood. The Wildwood quarterback did it all in a 28-21 triumph over Cumberland Thursday, the team’s first season-opening victory since 2012. Hans was 10-of-25 passing for 234 yards, 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions, ran 13 times for 70 yards and 2 more scores, including the go-ahead TD with 1:02 remaining, and made 6 tackles on defense.

Quayd Hendryx, Burlington Twp. Hendryx was a touchdown machine during the Falcons’ 36-0 win over Nottingham on Friday. He took each of his four catches to pay dirt and finished with 93 yards. He also made 3-of-4 extra points, booted a 25-yard field goal and averaged 40 yards on a trio of punts.

Luke Hoke, Audubon. Hoke had 4 catches for 211 yards and 2 touchdowns and had 7 carries for 45 yards and another score as the Green Wave blanked Maple Shade 31-0 on Thursday. His 211 receiving yards missed the school record by 7 yards (John Minardi, 218, 2002, per South Jersey historian Chuck Langerman).

Haddonfield prevails: Past meets present for Haddonfield football while success remains consistent

Braheem Long, Camden. Long had an 85-yard kickoff return touchdown, a 40-yard pick-6 and blocked a punt in a 34-0 victory over Salem on Saturday.

Anthony Reagan Jr., Woodbury. Reagan ran wild in the Thundering Herd’s 31-0 victory over West Deptford on Friday morning. He had 17 carries for 217 yards and 5 scores. He also snagged a pair of passes for 28 yards.

Dom Santiago, Paul VI. Santiago was 9-of-16 passing for 219 yards and 4 scores and got into the end zone on the ground too in a 35-6 win over Highland on Friday.

A quarter for the ages: Cherokee football shocks Hammonton thanks to 34-point period

Sean Simmons, Gateway. Simmons was a factor in all three phases as the Gators blanked Haddon Township 19-0 Thursday to give first-year coach Andrew Daley a season-opening win. Simmons, the quarterback, was 5-of-14 for 91 yards, had 12 carries for 68 yards and a touchdown, had an interception and 7 tackles on defense, and blocked a punt for a safety on special teams.

Darien Woody, Florence. Woody had 6 carries for 101 yards and a touchdown, made 6 tackles, had 2 fumble recoveries and blocked a pair of punts in a 34-0 triumph over New Egypt on Thursday.

Mike Zarfati, Middle Twp. Zarfati’s 94-yard pick-6 was the lone score in a 7-0 victory over Oakcrest on Friday night. Zarfati finished with a pair of interceptions and also made 2 catches for 41 yards.
