Sources: Knicks plan to sign former lottery pick Trey Burke for remainder of season
The New York Knicks plan to sign former lottery pick Trey Burke to a contract for the remainder of the season, league sources told Yahoo Sports.
The Knicks held Burke out of the annual G League Showcase in Toronto this week and had been in serious discussions to sign him from their affiliate in Westchester. New York will release guard Ramon Sessions to create roster space, league sources said. Burke will sign his contract with the Knicks within the next 24 hours, league sources said.
Burke, the No. 9 overall pick in the 2013 NBA draft, has had an excellent season with Westchester. He has averaged 26.6 points, 5.3 assists and 41.8 percent 3-point shooting in the G League this season and was named the player of the month for December.
Burke will join a point guard rotation of Jarrett Jack and Frank Ntilikina with the Knicks.
Burke has averaged 10.6 points in four NBA seasons with Utah and Washington. He had two standout seasons at Michigan, where he led the program to the national championship game in 2013 in his final season as a sophomore.
