Sources: Cavs finalizing deal to send Richard Jefferson to Hawks
The Cleveland Cavaliers are finalizing a deal to send forward Richard Jefferson and guard Kay Felder to the Atlanta Hawks, league sources told The Vertical.
Both sides are still working on final details of the trade, which would finalize the Cavaliers’ 15-man roster and allow them to shed salary, league sources told The Vertical.
The Hawks will also receive two future second-round draft picks while sending rights to overseas players, league sources said.
The Hawks will likely release Jefferson and Felder, who will become top free-agent priorities as rosters finalize, league sources told The Vertical.
Jefferson has played a critical reserve role for the Cavaliers over the past two seasons and was part of the championship team in 2016. He averaged 5.7 points and 2.6 rebounds in 79 games last season. Jefferson is entering his 17th NBA season and still has a desire to help a winning franchise.
Felder was the Cavaliers’ 54th overall draft selection in the 2016 NBA draft and signed a three-year rookie contract that was mostly guaranteed. Felder has had a strong preseason, posting a 12-point, 11-assist performance against Washington on Oct. 8.
