Milwaukee Bucks general manager John Hammond has agreed to a contract extension through the 2016-17 season, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

Hammond has been instrumental in reshaping the Bucks’ roster, drafting cornerstones Giannis Antetokounmpo with the 15th overall pick in 2013 and Jabari Parker with the No. 2 overall pick in 2014.

Hammond has successfully co-existed with new ownership and new coach Jason Kidd, who has significant input into player personnel.

Milwaukee signed prominent free-agent power forward Greg Monroe to a three-year, $50 million maximum contract in July.

Milwaukee re-signed forward Khris Middleton to a four-year, $70 million contract in the summer, too. The Bucks were 41-41 in the Eastern Conference a year ago, earning a sixth seed before losing to the Chicago Bulls in a tough, six-game series.

Hammond was the 2009-10 NBA Executive of the Year. He was hired as the Bucks’ general manager in 2008 after a successful run with Joe Dumars and the Detroit Pistons.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel first reported the deal.
