Sooners offer 3-star safety and Oklahoma State commit, Landyn Cleveland

The Oklahoma Sooners continue to make moves in the 2024 Recruiting Class. Even though we are almost to the start of the season, evaluating and recruiting doesn’t stop until the pen hits the paper.

The Sooners were at it again, offering three-star safety Landyn Cleveland. The Mansfield, Texas, native has some of the most impressive film and numbers out there for someone flying so far under the radar.

He’s committed to the Sooners’ rival, the Oklahoma State Cowboys. He’s been pledged to the Cowboys since April.

Posted consecutive 100-tackle seasons as a sophomore and junior, plus five total Ints. Adequate height approaching 6 feet with a fairly stout build. Plays a physical style and hits heavier than listed size of 185 pounds. Tone setter as a tackler. Flashes impressive downhill pursuit speed and closes fast on a line. Plays aware and has shown rangy zone coverage ability. Disruptive at the catch point in contested situations. Best used playing forward as a downhill enforcer. Fits the modern rover/box safety/spacebacker archetype. Limited testing data suggest room to improve top-end speed and overall athleticism. Could potentially become a quality multi-year starter, especially in the right scheme fit. — 247Sports national scouting analyst Gabe Brooks

He would make an absolutely perfect cheetah in Brent Venables’ scheme. But the Sooners have work to do to flip his commitment.
