Unbeaten Somerset Berkley ice hockey team takes care of Apponequet: Top performers Dec. 18-23

FALL RIVER — It was another big win for the Somerset Berkley ice hockey team on Saturday.

The Raiders took care of business against Apponequet on Saturday, beating the Lakers 4-1 at Driscoll Ice Arena.

Jack Rothwell scored two goals for SBR (3-0-1) in the win. Liam Derocher and Luke Gauvin each added a goal and an assist.

Goalie Brandon Silva stopped 21 shots on net for the win.

The Raiders travel to Taunton on Saturday.

Friday

Boys Basketball

Brendan McDonald finished with 18 points, eight assists and six steals to lead the unbeaten Raiders to a 76-49 win over Dighton-Rehoboth. Finn Bjork contributed 17 points, 10 rebounds and two dunks. Max Finlaw chipped in with nine points while Mason Medeiros added eight points and four steals. Dom Taylor scored eight points and grabbed five rebounds.

Jeyden Espinal poured in a team-high 27 points for the Hilltoppers in Braintree's 63-60 victory. Davontae Stewart and Alvin Gaston each scored 12 points for Durfee (2-2).

Girls Basketball

Mia Gentile netted a game-high 20 points to lead the Raiders to their 69-29 over Dighton-Rehoboth. Julianna Nassiff added 12 points and Karlie Cosme finished with eight points for SBR (1-2).

Thursday

Boys Basketball

Owen Boudria netted a game-high 19 points to lift Westport to a 70-33 home win over non-league opponent St John Paul II. Boudria also had 10 assists, four blocks and five rebounds. Chris Duarte finished in double figures with 14 points and Cole Boudria added nine points.

Landon Cayton netted a team-high 15 points to lead the Cardinals to a win over Seekonk. Tyler Costa and Aiden Parent each scored 12 points. Cayden Gonsalves finished with 11 points and 11 rebounds for Case (3-2).

Girls Basketball

Mya Hayes-Paulette scored a seaosn-high 29 points to lift the unbeaten Hilltoppers to a 59-43 road win over Dennis Yarmouth. Julia Hargraves and Maggie O’Connell each finished with 12 points. Durfee (4-0) went on a 23-0 run to end the game.

Liberty Gazaille finished with a team-high 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to help the Cardinals to a 45-33 win over Seekonk. Emma Plante had 10 points and 10 rebounds. Lily Picard added seven points and Kaylin Hajder contributed six rebounds for Case (3-2 overall, 1-1 in SCC).

Wednesday

Boys Basketball

Mickey Pimentel had a game-high 32 points and DJ Adediran added 15 points in the Tritons' 69-39 win against Rising Tide. Nate Benivedes and Marv Antoine each chipped in six for Atlantis Charter (2-2).

Ice Hockey

Jack Rothwell netted three goals to lead the unbeaten Raiders to a 8-1 win over Greater New Bedford. Nate Mello scored a pair of goals and had two assists. Kein Stafford had a goal and an assist. Carter Silva and Cam McKenna also scored a goal for SBR (2-0-1). Mason Sullivan had three assists. Madden Huck stopped 23 shots in net.

Wrestling

The Raiders won their second straight match of the season, beating MIddleboro, 46-33. Individual winns by pins for SBR (2-0) were Alex Javier (126), Anthony Celio (138), Ayden Griffin (144), Jimmy Phenix (150), Ryan Ferdette (165), Aidan Sylvia (175) and Owen Pavao (190). Charlie Medas (heavyweight) won by major decision.

Boys Swimming

Omar Mahmoud (200 IM, 100 breaststroke) and Jack Fitzgerald (50 free, 100 butterfly) were double winners for the Hilltoppers in their 85-49 win over Middleboro. William Pierce, Forrest Malo and Tim Archambault won the 200 medley relay while Fitzgerald, Mahmoud, William Rumsey and Michael Harrington took first in the 200 free relay. Reed White, Anthony Sweatt and Nicholas Caron also had strong performances.

Girls Swimming

Rachael Silva won the diving event with a score of 244.87 for the HIlltoppers in Middleboro's 95-85 win. Madison Ferreira qualifying for the South Sectionals, placing second with a score of 195.76. Casey Carvalho took third with a score of 186.45. Other first-place finishes were Avery Antunes (200 IM) and Abigail Saunders (50 freestyle). Gillian Tiburtino, Paitynn Botelho, Antunes and Saunders claimed first in the 400 free relay event. Claire Bjerre and Kasey Juarez each performed well.

Boys Track

Cashton Richard won the 600, took third in the high jump and set a school record in the 55 hurdles (9.01) for the Bengals in a 86-14 win over Wareham. Phoenix Bennett (300, long jump), Benjamin Bannister (1000, high jump) and Macauley Crossman (mile, 2-mile) were double winners. Asafe Penha won the 55 dash. Diman (2-0) took first in both the 4x200 and 4x400 relays.

Girls Track

Emma Foley extended her school records in the 55 hurdles and long jump for the Bengals 75-24 win over Wareham. Inez Medeiros (300, 55 dash) and Alexah Pedder (mile, 1000) were double winners. Grace Flattery extended her school record in the high jump, taking first place and took second in the 55 dash. Isabelle Chekares (600) andLylah Thibeault (2-mile) were also winners. Diman (2-0) won both the 4x200 and 4x400 relays.

Tuesday

Boys Basketball

Brendan McDonald scored a game-high 25 points to lead the Raiders to a 63-56 league home win over Apponequet. Senior captain Mason Medeiros had 11 points, seven rebounds and four steals. Finn Bjork chipped in with eight points and team-high 13 rebounds. Max Finlaw ended with eight points and Colten Pacheco added eight points in the fourth quarter for SBR (2-0).

Landon Cayton had a team-high 23 points for the Cardinals in Bourne's 86-53 win. Case (2-2) hosts Seekonk on Thursday.

Owen Boudria netted a game-high 28 points for the Wildcats in Bishop Stang's 54-38 win. Boudria also finished with nine steals, three blocks and three assists.. He scored Westport's first 17 of 19 points in the first half.

Girls Basketball

Hannah Carpenter finished with a team-high 17 points for the Raiders in Bourne's 53-47. Mia Gentile finished with 15 points and Karlie Cosme chipped in with 10 points for SBR (0-2).

Emma Plante had a team-high 16 points for the Cardinals but fell short in Bourne's 57-43 win. Liberty Gazaille had 14 points and eight rebounds. Madelyn Botelho chipped in with seven points and Lily Picard added four for Case (2-2).

Boys Indoor Track

Aidan Lanciault won the high jump and took third in the 55 dash for the HIlltoppers in Bridgewater-Raynham's 73-29 win. Curtis Mowatt won the long jump and Owen Moniz finished in second place in the 1000. Hyde Farias took second in the high jump and was third in the hurdles. Freshman Jose Chicas placed third in the mile and second in the two mile for Durfee (0-2).

Girls Indoor Track

Thysh Garcia-Martinez broke a 13-year old sophomore record in the 55 dash for the HIlltoppers in Bridgewater-Raynham's 69-29 win. Lily Cook won the shot put and took second in the 2-mile. Jasmine DoSouto finished second in the shot put and Aaliyah Alexandre won the 55 hurdles. Katherine Santiago finished in second in the 55 hurdles. The 4x200 team of Alexandre, Sylvie Brito, Garcia Martinez, and Isabelle Leite won their relay event.

Monday

Boys Basketball

Sam Perry netted a team-high 20 points to lead the Bengals to a 58-57 win over Wayland. Anthony DeJesus chipped in with 17 points, including two 3-pointers in the final minute. Sy’Air Neal had 14 points while Sakai Silva, Ian Campbell-Morales, Jack Librera and Jace Piexoto each played well for Diman (1-1).

Girls Basketball

Korynne Holden had a great all-around game, scoring16 points, 10 steals, a rebound and four assists to lead the unbeaten Wildcats to a 59-19 win against South Shore. Kylie Hazel finished with 11 points, 10 rebounds and two steals. Julia George chipped in with nine points, five rebounds, seven assist and six steals for Westport (4-0).

Cindy Bui netted a team-high 13 points for the Bengals in Holbrook's 50-40 win. Savanna Rodrigues chipped in with nine points while Evey Fernandes finished with six points for Diman (0-3).

Ice Hockey

Jacob Almeida reached the century mark in career points after scoring five goals and two assists in the Bengals 10-1 win over Greater New Bedford. Bryce Medeiros had a pair of goals and four assists while Landen Freitas finished with a goal and three assists. Other top performers were Owen Vernon (goal, three assists) and Jacoby Brouilard (goal). Goalie Cohen Pacheco came off the bench and finished the game for his first win for Diman (3-0).
