Softball playoff roundup, keep up with all the action from the NJSIAA tournament

The 11th-seeded Washington Township High School softball team is moving on.

The Minutemaids churned out a comeback win thanks to a six-run sixth inning en route to a 6-3 victory over sixth-seeded Vineland in the opening round of the South Jersey Group 4 tournament on Tuesday.

It was Washington Township’s first playoff win since 2017.

Alyssa Pepe drove in a pair of runs, Alexis Thompson had two hits and an RBI while Izzy Miller and Gia Henhaffer also knocked in runs for the Minutemaids.

Washington Township will travel to third-seeded Kingsway for Friday’s quarterfinal-round game.

In other South Jersey Group 4 action:

Kingsway 9, Millville 1: Noelle Flail smacked a two-run homer and Olivia Sciulli and Ava Snyder each scored a pair of runs as the third-seeded Dragons eliminated the Thunderbolts. Jessa Pieters scattered five singles, didn’t walk a batter and struck out eight to earn the win for Kingsway (15-9).

Cherokee 2, Eastern 0: Sammie Friel recorded her 500th career strikeout on her way to a complete-game shutout and Kasey McNee drove in a pair of runs as fourth-seeded Cherokee advanced.

Rancocas Valley 6 Toms River East 5: The Red Devils rallied from a four-run deficit to advance into the quarterfinals.

RV (13-11) will travel to Lenape for Thursday's quarterfinal round.

Lenape 13, Pennsauken 0: Maya Knasiak twirled a one-hitter with 11 strikeouts as second-seeded Lenape       cruised to its 21st win of the season. Vanessa Meyers (three hits, two runs), Leah Taylor (two hits, three runs, three RBIs) and Katie Vuong (two hits, three runs) powered the offense.

Egg Harbor Twp. 11, Williamstown 1: Sienna Walterson singled, doubled and drove in three runs as the top-seeded Eagles started their title defense in dominating fashion. Payton Colbert had three knocks while Madison Dollard, Madison Biddle and Sofia Spatocco added two hits apiece for EHT, which will host GCIT on Friday.

Gloucester County Tech 2, Central Regional 0: Aubrey Miller twirled a gem, shutting down Central on four hits and fanning 10. Sophia Hatton scored both of the Cheetahs' runs thanks to a pair of RBI knocks by Aubrey Menold.

Southern 5, Toms River North 0

South Jersey Group 3

Ocean City 5, Highland 3: The top-seeded Raiders took a five-run lead into the seventh inning and held on to advance with a win over the visiting Tartans.

Brooke Douglas took a shutout into the seventh inning. She yielded five hits en route to the victory, striking out 13.

MacKenzie Segich led the OC offense with three hits and two runs scored.

Moorestown 5, Timber Creek 0: Junior Violet Marta stuck out a career-high 20 batters en route to a two-hit shutout as the second-seeded Quakers silenced the Chargers. Julia Miller had a hit and run scored while Melania Locatell stolen two bases and scored twice.

Moorestown (19-4) will host 10th-seeded Mainland in Thursday's quarterfinal round.

Mainland 6, Hammonton 4: Denver Obermeyer blasted a homer and drove in four runs as the 10th-seeded Mustangs knocked of seventh-seeded Hammonton. Rayna Molina scored three times and Olivia Hull had two hits to back the pitching performance of Bella D'Agostino.

Lacey Twp. 11, Triton 9: Riley Mikiewicz homered and drove in five runs but the fourth-seeded Mustangs couldn't pull out the victory. Lila Schreyer went 3-for-3 with three runs scored for Triton, which fell to 14-9.

Shawnee 9, Absegami 0:  Madison Parola launched a homer and drove in three runs to back the strong pitching of Alexandra Play, who fanned 12 en route to an eight-hit shutout for Shawnee. Ashley Murphy and Ava Heicklen had three hits apiece for the winners.

Delsea 12, Clearview 0: Gianna Dougherty fired a five-inning no-hitter as the Crusaders checked into the quarterfinals. Kylee Reissek had two hits and three RBIs while Dougherty chipped in three hits and two runs scored.

Cherry Hill West 5, Deptford 4: Nadya Devenny picked up a pair of RBIs and Shea Clark scored twice as the sixth-seeded Lions took a five-run lead and held on for the win. West (12-8) will travel to Delsea for a quarterfinal game on Friday.

South Jersey Group 2

Haddon Heights 17, Camden 0: Maddy Clark tossed a four-inning no-hitter and Lydia Trailes swatted a home run as the Garnets opened their title defense with a home rout.

Barnegat 13, Oakcrest 6: The ninth-seeded Falcons bow out of the tournament after surrendering a seven-run frame in the fourth inning. Oakcrest fell to 12-8.

Gloucester 18, Medford Tech 0: Hannah Bryszewski reached a milestone with her 100th career hit to lead the Lions.

Cedar Creek 4, Middle Township 1: Liz Martin took a shutout into the seventh inning and guided the 11th-seeded Pirates to an upset win.

Allison Amadio went 3-for-3 with a run scored and Leah Martin, Kileen McNeill and Hailey Parker also crossed home plate for Cedar Creek (9-12). That was plenty of offense for Liz Martin, who gave up six hits and one walk.

Cedar Creek, which played in last year’s sectional final, will travel to third-seeded Gloucester for Thursday's quarterfinal.

Collingswood 7, Manchester Twp. 3: Piper Wright had three hits and two runs scored while Kendal Justus chipped in two hits and three RBIs as the seventh-seeded Panthers picked up their first postseason win since 2018.

Cinnaminson 14, Haddonfield 0: The Pirates registered 14 hits, including seven for extra-bases, as the sailed to victory over the Haddons. Ellie Zarnawski and Madeline Katchuck each did a little yard work while Maddyn Rittler had three hits and three runs scored for Cinnaminson (19-4). Hannah Derbyshire and Maura Del Grippo combined for 13 strikeouts en route to a one-hitter in five innings.

Sterling 8, Overbook 2: Caitlin Ott homered and drove in four runs and Molly Skelly rung up 12 strikeouts en route to the victory for the Silver Knights.

Karena Justice and Julianna Cruz had two hits apiece and combined for three runs scored for fifth-seeded Sterling.

West Deptford 13, Lower Cape May 0: Macey Harrold went 3-for-3 with a double and five RBIs as the Eagles soared to victory. Winning pitcher Isabella Kwashek went 4-for-4 with three RBIs and polished off the Caper Tigers with nine strikeouts in five innings.

South Jersey Group 1

Audubon 21, Glassboro 0: Alyson Yurcaba and Emily Bobo combined for five hits, five RBIs and four runs scored as the second-seeded Green Wave washed out the visiting Bulldogs. Brooke Felli and Emma Speyerer each drove in a pair of runs for Audubon (15-7). Alania Copsetta and Emily Bobo shared the two-hit shutout.

Haddon Township 10, Palmyra 0: Julia Barton knocked in three runs, Jamie Kozarski went 3-for-3 with a pair of runs scored and Alexis Bordi filled up the stat sheet with two hits, two RBIs and three runs scored as the Hawks advanced.

Schalick 14, Paulsboro 0: Gianna Fiske and Cayla Sbrana each drove in three runs and Madison Brown added two RBIs as the Cougars rolled to the victory. Fiske held Paulsboro to one hit over five innings and struck out seven. Paulsboro starter Alexis Morrison reached a milestone in the circle with her 200th career strikeout.

Woodstown 15, Cape May Tech 0: Tulana Mangin collected three hits and three RBIs as the third-seeded Wolverines posted 16 knocks in their opening-round win. Emily Holladay, Cara Delia and Kayla Brown each had two hits apiece and combined for six runs scored.

Pennsville 11, Gateway 10: The Eagles pushed a run across in the bottom of the eighth inning to advance. Kayle Sipps had two hits, three runs scored and four RBIs while Ash Borden and Isabella Farina each crossed home plate three times for the sixth-seeded Eagles, who will travel to Woodstown for Friday's quarterfinal.

Buena 12, Pitman 5: Laylah Collins homered and scored three runs to help power Buena to victory. Anna Sheridan and Julia Sheridan joined Collins with two hits in the game.

Central Jersey Group 4

Northern Burlington 8, West Windsor-Plainsboro North 0: Mikayla Fontana went 4-for-4 with two RBIs and tossed a three-hit shutout with eight strikeouts as the fourth-seeded Greyhounds advanced to the quarterfinal round.

Kelci O’Dell contributed three hits and three runs scored while Alyssa Marchetti, Madelyn Szafran and Riley Pieloch each had two knocks for Northern, which will host fifth-seeded Freehold Township on Friday.

Central Jersey Group 3

Burlington Township 5, Westampton Tech 0: Rylee Reid registered nine strikeouts on her way to a four-hit shutout as the seventh-seeded Falcons soared to a win. Tyler Douglas had three hits and two runs scored while Kylie Krawiec chipped in two hits and two runs scored for BT, which will travel to Robbinsville on Friday.

Central Jersey Group 2

Bordentown 17, East Brunswick 0: Katelin Hoppe struck out 17 batters en route to a no-hitter and helped her own cause with a homer as the defending sectional champion Scotties opened up the tournament with a bang.

Bordentown will travel to top-seeded Metuchen for Friday's quarterfinal.

Delran 6, Bound Brook 0: The Bears checked into the quarterfinal round as Olivia Powell fired a four-hitter with zero walks and 10 strikeouts. Cheyenne Jackson had a hit, walk, two stolen bases and two runs scored while Aly Reim and Elaina Faux each had two hits to power the Delran attack.

The victory was No. 100 for Delran head coach Danielle Carlotto

Central Jersey Group 1

Florence 13, Burlington City 2: Madison Clevenger doubled twice and drove in three runs to energize the Flashes’ lineup as the fourth-seeded advanced to the quarterfinals. Siniva Sufia had two hits and three runs scored and Bella Morales chipped in two hits and two runs scored for Florence (10-8), which will host Manville in Friday’s quarterfinal round.

Riverside 10, Henry Hudson 9: Shealyn Higgins had four hits and three RBIs as the tenth-seeded Rams pulled out an upset win in nine innings to advance. Riverside will travel to second-seeded Keansburg for a quarterfinal-round game.
