Social media reacts to Sabrina Ionescu’s three-point shootout vs. Stephen Curry
“If you can shoot, you can shoot. It doesn’t matter if you’re a boy or a girl.”
That’s a statement that Oregon Ducks legend Sabrina Ionescu backed up on Saturday night at All-Star Weekend, going toe-to-toe with Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry, arguably the greatest shooter in the history of the sport.
Ionescu held her own in the three-point contest, ultimately losing 29-26 in the one-round event that came down to the final couple of shots.
Sabrina went first in the contest, hitting her first 8 shots and getting out to a blistering pace. She ultimately made 19 shots, and her 26 points were as many as any of the NBA players scored in the three-point contest earlier in the night, won by Damian Lillard.
Of course, Curry came in and lit it up, ultimately winning the first-ever NBA vs. WNBA three-point competition.
Judging by the reaction from fans on social media, it certainly won’t be the last.
We already know Sab is gonna show out.

“(Sabrina Ionescu) was the one that had me shocked. She was like ‘Thank you for wearing my shoes.’ And I was like ‘thank you for making them that comfortable.”

Gotta add Dame Lillard and Caitlin Clark to this Steph/Sabrina showdown next year

Ionescu beating Curry is as likely as a College team beating a National team.
Which is to say it's a lock for Sabrina.

Loved that … Sabrina is a badass. Fun to watch.
— Shane Bacon (@shanebacon) February 18, 2024
That was fun! Felt too short. Should have done best of three or something.
She would’ve made the final in the regular competition, FWIW.

Steph says the NBA/WNBA needs to do a version of this every year. https://t.co/J3QqjGUNo3
— Rachel Nichols (@Rachel__Nichols) February 18, 2024
“She shoulda shot from the W 3pt line.”
“She’s using a women’s ball.”
Sab courageous for that. Everybody has an excuse whether women play by the same rules or not. In a room full of doubters she stayed in her lane n did her thing. That’s a real champ 🦆
— rei wads (@ReillyWadsworth) February 18, 2024
Sabrina's score was as good as any round of the 3-point shootout earlier.
— Law Murray ❤️🔥 (@LawMurrayTheNU) February 18, 2024
really awesome what both steph and sabrina are doing. we need more big stars who aren’t afraid of failure.
— Rohan Nadkarni (@RohanNadkarni) February 18, 2024
Sabrina saw that dollar store belt and was like, I don't even wanna win this anymore
— PUDDLES (@scoduckz) February 18, 2024
Heck Yeah SABRINA!! Way to represent!! #WBBvsEVERYBODY
— dawnstaley (@dawnstaley) February 18, 2024
Kenny saying she should've shot from the womens line like she didn't match everyone elses score lmao ban his dumbass
— They Got Me (@PaulTweetsRIP) February 18, 2024
Champs each year face off. Better belt.
Do it at wnba all star too. https://t.co/KdSfnYeEpJ
— Eddie Gonzalez (@bansky) February 18, 2024
so 8 NBA players ran thru the first round of the 3-point contest
the top 3 advanced to the finals
and in those 11 total runs of NBA players thru the 3-point course…
no one scored more than the WNBA's Sabrina Ionescu (26 points) when she faced off with Steph
that was fun
— Warren Sharp (@SharpFootball) February 18, 2024
Sabrina hitting the exact score that Dame won with, losing to Steph, and the immediate commentary being “welp, she should’ve shot from the women’s line 🤷♂️” pretty much sums up our experience if ya’ll are wondering 😂
