Social media reacts to Kids’ Day at Kinnick scrimmage

The Iowa Hawkeyes welcomed in fans for their annual Kids’ Day at Kinnick open practice and subsequent scrimmage.

It’s one of the great days on the calendar for the Iowa football program. In collaboration with the UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital, the Hawkeyes welcome in and meet their Kid Captains for the annual showcase.

Of course, there’s drills to be run and a football scrimmage to be had. This year, the overriding storyline wound up being a non-contact injury to Iowa starting quarterback Cade McNamara.

Fortunately for the Hawkeyes’ 2023 fortunes, Iowa head football coach Kirk Ferentz indicated afterwards that he’s not expecting McNamara’s injury to be anything too serious. The belief is that it’s a muscle issue that McNamara should be able to quickly rehab.

Before McNamara put a scare into the Hawkeye fanbase, he also provided some excitement with several throws to wide receivers Seth Anderson and Diante Vines. Anderson hauled in a touchdown grab from McNamara.

There were plenty of other highlights from the rest of the Hawkeyes as well. In the defensive backfield, cornerbacks Deshaun Lee and Jermari Harris each impressed with a combined three interceptions.

Up front defensively, Deontae Craig did Deontae Craig things. Redshirt freshman defensive end Brian Allen was one of the other defensive standouts.

Elsewhere offensively, tight end Steven Stilianos caught a pair of touchdowns from backup quarterback Deacon Hill, Leshon Williams ripped off a 32-yard touchdown trot and freshman running back Kamari Moulton bowled his way into the end zone from six yards out.

That’s just the tip of the iceberg, though. Take a look back at the Kids’ Day at Kinnick that was through social media’s tweets.
