Milwaukee Brewers fans react to playoff berth, near-franchise record 12-run second inning vs. Marlins
The Milwaukee Brewers left no doubt about it.
A year after missing the playoffs for the first time in four seasons in 2022, the Brewers entered their game Friday against the Miami Marlins needing just one win to punch their ticket back to the MLB postseason.
They accomplished that with a 16-1 beatdown of the Marlins, who are fighting for a wild card spot in the National League.
The Brewers, who look to win the NL Central division on Saturday with a win or a Cubs loss, put on an offensive show by scoring 12 runs in the second inning, the second-most runs in an inning in franchise history (the record is 13 runs in a game in 1990).
Christian Yelich, returning to the lineup after missing several games with a back injury, looked like the Yelich during his MVP years in the ballpark in which he got his start, smacking two home runs and going 3 for 5 with five RBI. One of his homers was in that wild second inning. Josh Donaldson, who was playing in just his 10th game with the Brewers after being signed to a minor-league deal Aug. 31, also hit a three-run home run in the second inning.
Here's how social media is reacting to the Brewers clinching the playoffs and that huge second inning.
