Sixers’ Joel Embiid named NBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week

The Philadelphia 76ers’ All-Star center added another accomplishment to his MVP-hopeful resume. Joel Embiid was named NBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week for Week 21 of the 2022-23 season.

During the highlighted period (March 6-12), Embiid averaged 38.5 points, 6.8 rebounds and 2.8 blocks per game. The Sixers went 4-0 during the week, racking up wins over the Indiana Pacers, Minnesota Timberwolves, Portland Trail Blazers, and the Washington Wizards. The highest-scoring output occurred against the Pacers, with Embiid dropping 42 points, willing his team to the 147-143 victory.

Embiid was honored for the third time this season (Dec. 12, Nov. 14). Sacramento Kings forward-center Domantas Sabonis was named the NBA Western Conference Player of the Week.

Embiid and the Sixers are on a hot streak and have won seven of their last 10 games. They are only three games behind the Milwaukee Bucks for the league’s best record.
