Sixers 3 goals: Danuel House Jr. has to bring 3-point shooting to the bench

In this continuing series, Sixers Wire looks at the 20 players, per Sportrac, that comprise the Philadelphia 76ers roster — 18 under contract and the two players on two-way deals — and gives each three goals for the 2022-23 season.

The new season begins on Oct. 18, and training camp begins on Sept. 27. Now is the time to begin previewing the new season of adventure that is Sixers basketball. Philadelphia will have to trim a few players because the active roster limit is 15.

This edition focuses on Danuel House Jr. who was acquired through free agency. He brings an important skill to the Sixers: shooting. He shot 37.6% from deep in the 2021-22 season while playing for three teams, so Philadelphia will be counting on him in a big way in the 2022-23 season to help the bench unit.

For House Jr., his three goals are:

Bring shooting to the bench unit

In 25 games for the Utah Jazz, his third team of the 2021-22 season, House Jr. shot 41.5% from deep on 3.3 attempts. He has to bring that 3-point shooting ability to this team’s bench unit and give it a spark in that area as well as in lineups with the starters. His experience with James Harden in Houston will do wonders for him and his fit on the roster.

Bring more perimeter defense

On top of his 3-point shooting, House Jr. has to provide perimeter defense to this team. He must be able to team with De’Anthony Melton off the bench to bring Philadelphia some legitimate play at both ends at the guard spots. He has the size to be a solid 3-and-D player.

Help in the rebounding department

This is going to be a theme for the Sixers this season. They were one of the worst rebounding teams in the 2021-22 season. The Sixers averaged 42.3 rebounds per game, tied for 28th in the league; the Houston Rockets were the only team that averaged fewer rebounds. House Jr. has to to contribute in some way on the glass for the Sixers to be successful.
