Sixers 2021 NBA mock draft: Nah’Shon Hyland provides bench scoring

The 2021 NBA draft approaches quickly — now just six days away (July 29) — so now is the time for teams to make their final decisions on a lot of their draft choices.

The Philadelphia 76ers have the 28th pick in the first round, and they have multiple options. They can decide to add some help off their bench, or they can package the selection in a potential Ben Simmons deal. It will be interesting to see how president Daryl Morey handles everything at his disposal.

The Sixers need some help: a scorer off their bench or a big man to add needed depth. In a recent mock draft, they go with the former.

The Ringer put out a new mock draft and it has Philadelphia going the scorer’s route: Nah’Shon Hyland out of VCU:

The Sixers want to make a blockbuster trade for Damian Lillard or Bradley Beal, but there’s no guarantee they’ll be able to. Drafting a courageous shot creator like Hyland could add a spark to the offense, even as a rookie.

Threat to launch stepback and pull-up 3s off the dribble from Dame territory, or he can spot up to shoot off the catch.

Has a herky-jerky style, mixing in hesitations and change of pace to create space in the midrange.

Crafty interior finisher who uses his long arms to stretch out and flip the ball up to the rim from unusual angles with either hand.

Long wingspan and agility give him defensive upside, as long as his fundamentals and effort improve.

Hyland averaged 19.5 points and 4.7 rebounds and he shot 37.1% from deep as a sophomore with the Rams. There is a lot to like about his game as more of a microwave scorer off the bench when the team needs it. If the Sixers decide to keep their selection at No. 28, then they should look into what Hyland can bring to the team.
